Better Questing Area: Charr or Norn?
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
I prefer the Norn starting area but the Charr zone is pretty nice too.
i would said norn. i felt the charr areas in general were not as good as any of the other races. i think i just dont like the gritty style of the char areas
From just a cursory glance, it seems like the Norn areas are much more expansive than the Charr. I think I’ll do Charr 1-20 and then move to Norn thereafter. That should provide me with a large variety of new zones yes?

Norn definitely, snow is a lot easier on the eyes compared to the endless expanse of gunmetal grey that is the Charr lands.
I love the Norn area.
I would say Charr because I personally despise the snow. It makes me silver-and-white died armor disappear
Also, it’s very white and bright and blinding.
And also, CHARR!
So far most of the opinions have been about whether snowy landscapes or gritty wastelands is more visually appealing. What about gameplay? More interesting DEs, hearts, variety of enemy type, dialogue…?

I totally forgot about those lol. Well to be honest after awhile the hearts get kind of similar. I wont say theyre boring, but its typically variations of kill this, gather that and so on, there are exceptions ofcourse. Honestly I found the Norn area had slightly more interesting quests. If you’re bored of the human lands you’re not really going to appreciate Metrica Province (Charr) as its mostly filled with human shaped ghosts. The Norn area is a little more wild lifey. Theres some fun DE’s too involving big big monsters.
I loved the Norn starting area, probably my fave. The Char zone was my least fave.
Norn area just better overall.
Because of all the shrines and other oddities, Norn land is a great place to start out if you’re a ranger since you’ll have your pick of easy-to-find tameable pets! I personally haven’t experienced a great deal of Charr land so I can’t vouch for which questing experience is preferable, though I’m sure they both have their strong points.

Norn lands can be really hard to navigate though. (Lornar’s pass anyone…?)
Also, Norn have a TON of dredge which are my most-despised enemy
If you’re into cooking then I would say Charr. Gotta harvest them chili peppers…
I think all the Shiverpeak maps, visually, are the best in the game, with Dregehaunt Cliffs being my favourite. All the vista’s are amazing, with many places where you want to stop and take it all in. I liked the variety in wildlife and the quests (hearts) are much the same as anywhere else.
Ascalon maps are very much the same as Kryta, except for the ‘scarred’ zones and the metal structures. Not my favourite maps … I found the Maguuma maps the worst, the jungle and marsh areas look lame and I don’t like all the over-sized fungi and plants.
So, I would suggest the Norn starter maps
charr by a mile.
If you never get tired of snow, choose Norn. Personally I found the Charr areas to be thought out much better. There’s just so much history and lore (mostly human) in the Charr areas and they’re clearly prepared for war. The ongoing peace negotiations between Charr and humans, all the signs of war effort (camps, bulwarks, war machines)… I totally love it. I found the Norn areas too much “all the same” and skipped them where I could to level elsewhere.
Got both a Charr warrior and Norn ranger @ 80.
Personally I find the Norn events funnier and more varied, but the Charr events are quicker and more… tightly designed. Also, Norn areas are far more vast, while Charr areas are kinda crowded.
So it depends on what is fun to you… taking your time and doing quirky quests about booze, or killing lots of mobs and progressing quickly.
Keep in mind that if you’re a zone completionist, you will spend FAR more time (at least twice as much) fully exploring Norn areas as you would in the Charr areas.
This can both be good and bad, but if you want to move on quickly the Norn area is bad for that
