What would happen if I went ahead and tried to sell a transmuted item on the BLTC? What would happen if I just wanted to send a friend a transmuted item?

Once you transmute an item it usually becomes accountbound/soulbound and is unable to be traded/sold to anyone outside of your account (like an alt).

Transmuted item are soulbound. Neither of the things you asked about is possible.

transmuted items are actually account bound, not soulbound. account bound items can not be sold on the TP
