Want the backpack with the sword wings (or anything with wings…). So I get killing Aetherblade mobs drops these, though I have never seen it happen. Assuming the drop rate is stupid low. Also get to the grand chest at the end of the JP in GF gets you 2 a day. Whee! Not nearly worth it….I read something about a node in your home instance….or something? Whats that about and how do you know if you have it? Thanks in advance.

The mining node can be bought from laurel vendors. It’s called the gift of sprockets -

This has a chance to give blade shards. If you already have some you can make more in the mystic forge using the below recipe -

You can always join someone who already has it in their instance and mine it there. Are you on EU servers? I’ve got one in my instance if you want to mine it.

Pretty sure you can’t mine in somebody elses’ home instance.

But as already mentioned, you can buy watchwork sprockets and combine them in the mystic forge to obtain blade shards. so it’s entirely possible. It won’t be cheap, but gold can be fairly easily obtained in this game if you know where to look (selling materials, running daily dungeons etc).

Think of it as a long term goal and you’ll get there. I’m sure- If you want the coloured versions of the finished backpiece (which are ascended backpieces) I would recommend trying to purchase the coloured cores required for it as soon as you can. These no longer drop and are still in demand, meaning that their price will only go up as I seriously doubt they’d include a different way of obtaining them in the future.

You can mine in other people’s instance. It just doesn’t count as a separate node. If you have mined it in one instance then you have mined it in all instances.

You can definitely gather in someone else’s home instance, but keep in mind you can only gather from home instance nodes once per day per account. So you can’t tour multiple home instances, or use multiple characters, in the same day.
And blade shards are account bound, so they can’t be bought, sold, given away, or traded on the TP. I kinda stinks for people who missed Living Story Season 1. You could buy sprockets on the TP, and use the Mystic Forge to upgrade them to blade shards. That would be pricey, though. The fact that they can be transformed to blade shards is probably what is keeping the price up.

Which version of the Spinal Blades are you going for?

If you want the version with 2 or 4 blades then you don’t need many blade shards (175 for the Quad Spinal Blades) if you want the coloured versions (which are ascended) then 25 laurels and 15 gold are the least of your problems.

The Spinal Blades were always intended to be a challenge to get, either a very long term goal or something that needs a lot of gold and other resources, or both.

Ok, I hope this is not cheating, but I noticed early on the spinal blades were the cheapest ascended back item and you get to select the stats you want so I purchased a bunch of recipes. I farm blade shards by parking extra characters at the end of the jump puzzle and just log in and farm them once a day. Every once in a while the chest will drop 15.
Working on my 3rd spinal blade set now. I Hope this method will work for you.

I have 2 other toons…maybe 3…gotta check the lvl of GF JP…that can get up to the chest for blades. Im going to start doing that for sure. Thats six a day. I can work with that. Isnt there a Living Story instance that will grant them once as well?

server doesn’t matter, as long as you’re on a NA server, we can party, load into the same map, and go into the same instance. it’s really easy. I’m going to add you to my friends when I next go in game

All right! I got 4 toons whos only job it is is to open a grand chest for 2 blades a day.

BUT….I just realized I also need to get this “Spinal Blade Pack Blueprint” thing. Its only made by getting the 4 blueprint scraps. The 4 scraps seem to only come (randomly I assume) in a bag of alliance supplies. The bags cant be obtained anymore (as far as I know) except through an “Heirloom Merchant”, where every they may be. I need “Heirlooms” (how??) to buy said bags from said merchant. This is what I gleaned from Wiki. Am I crazy or is this even possible for a casual player?

This is the easiest part. You can buy these scrap on the TP for about 1.5 silver each. This back item is hard, but that’s not about casual or not. It’s about being there when the event was there. My first of these back item was super easy to do, now I’m doing the other two, but blades shards are hard to get by. I have the sprocket node in my home instance and the mining pick that give sprocket from time to time when I mine. With sprocket you have a recipe that create more blade shard. So if you really want the back item you can still buy large quantity of sprocket and craft blades shards in the mystic forge. But it will cost you about 2 gold of sprocket to craft 10-15 blade shards. It will cost you about 100 gold if you try it that way, but you will be able to do it in an hour compare to a years at your current rate.

I don’t have this problem with my node and my mining pick, but if I didn’t have those, I would buy sprocket to do it. Just do about 2 hours of dungeon during 2 weeks and you will have enough gold to buy the sprockets you need to get your blades shards.

THAT…..is some very welcome news indeed! I dont have the laurels or the pick and I havent done any dungeons yet (thank you worthless Necros). But just knowing I can get started and make the base item I need makes me feel like I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. 4 days till I make the first one, then I’ll see about what it takes after that!
