Hello everybody,i have one of the strangest issues ever: My brain keeps dumping decisions whenever i wish to play a RPG game,so i’m asking a little help to GW2’s community.
Long story short: in almost 1 year none of my toons reached level 80 XD
That’s because i can’t decide my identity…i already asked some tips to decide, but it’s an infinite cycle…and i’d like to end it,now, while my PC is broken so i can reflect a bit.

Now,the kitten’s got real: what to choose? I’m looking for serious tips, wich can eventually help me decide…
So,this would be my main,Asura,of course, and i’d use such character for PvE,WvW and a bit of PvP,i don’t care about how hard it is to reach level 80,what i care about is the late game, when the real kitten shows up.

So…Mesmer: It’s fancy,disturbing,butterflying…and slow…
I like the feel of the mesmer in my hands, how abilities react, they’re fast and reactive…however the lack of swiftness is a big pain in the kitten, and seeing how the mesmer is a popular hate,i can smell nerfs, slow nerfs, turning a dangerous mesmer into a butterfly spammer…that’s what hold me down…

Now,the Engineer: fancy(ier),doesn’t give a kitten and can do about anything…however that “anything” stops him from excelling,no weapon swaps, turrets aren’t powerful enough and kits reclaim an utility slot.
I’m fine with that,i love kits, however tht’s always the same appearance and…the stunbreakers? Whenever i used my engineer,i rocked until a nasty stun managed to smash my awesome hitbox, turning me into dead flesh.
So,kits are fun but 1 stunbreaker is needed…what about elites? the mortar ain’t great, neither the elixir X,however the supply drop is really good.

The necro: someone told me “just pick the class you’d like to be!” and i’d like to be a necro…a forever alone guy with a few minions,a few marks in mah pocket and shiny black light (wut?)…however the necro disappointed me.
Condition control is amazing, really,if a guardian uses the all boons shout then you’ve already won, however, physical damage sucks, the axe is awkward, the dagger isn’t the best option either and many abilities just feel wrong.
The DS is a half-fail too: it’s boring, and only works well once, then good luck getting back your life force :s
What hold me from scrapping the necro are the cool animations it has and the condition control it provides.

The ranger: i like bows,i like pets, seems all right, however the utilities really feel wrong, really wrong.
Traps feel awkward, spirits don’t even move without a grandmaster trait and other classes support much better than a spirit build ranger.
Apart from that (totally not a little issue, lol) weapon’s abilities are really cool, except the axe wich i don’t like and the sword’s 1,i mean, why does it snare you?

The elementalist: it’s abilities feel great, probably the best support class, can tank alot and also do high damage…the thing that holds me down is that it doesn’t have weapon swaps, the attunements are all from the same 1(or 2) weapon(s) and so it lacks the engineer’s choose, with the payoff consisting of 3 free utilities(or 4).
What really holds me is the D/D weapon set: that’s just much more powerful compared to other weapon sets,it offers much more versatility and it’s much more used, however this means the “flexibility” gets dumped into D/D bunker build with cantrips as utilities :s and the conjured weapons are so bad

Last: Warrior and Guardian.
The guardian is te go-to class right now,it has damage, tankyness and condition removal, can support, burst and defend at will and it’s special abilities are just too good.
While the warrior doesn’t have the condition damage the guardian gets for free,it has much more cc (mace+shield…) and can support using banners, wich can also be used to “gift” swiftness to who doesn’t have it (hiya mesmers!) while providing good AoE buffs.
Stances feel awkward, most weapon abilities are boring a shouting gets repetitive.

So,these are my concerns about the professions in this game, right now i’d say “mesmer or engineer”…but things change and i’ve been changing mind for over 10 months,so i only scrap the thief, for it’s lack of versatility.

If someone who has a nice experience can give me tips about choosing,i’d be glad to read such tips…cause… kitten 10+ months?!?

Thank you for reading, sorry for the wall of text.

You should just play warrior. They’re very strong in dungeons.

What about condition damage? isn’t it lacking?
Other than signet/shout/100blade build,is there something truly viable?

A few points to mark out.
a: Your saying in the first alinea a lot bout your desire for an identity in an RPG game. The motives to take up or not take up on a class are however no traditional RP-reasons but gameplay reasons. This got me puzzeled. Do you have role playing issues or do you just feel being a bad player??

b: assuming the last (not saying your a bad player, but the fact that you feel it that way is important). You give a very good summerize bout pro’s and cons of several classes, but thats what it is. All classes have pro’s and con’s. There is no smash your head o nthe keyboard and be god-class. To truly love and understand a class you need to invest time and patience.

So basicly what you to do is stick to a class and force yourself to stick to it till you have it at level 80, done full storyline, a dungeon, WvWvW and some farming. Force yourself to be patient and loyal to your class and you will get the loyalty back. You will conquer the down sides and turn them into positives. But you need to invest time.

So my advise is to start all over from 0 and pick a class and stick to it. If you have trouble deciding you could draw tickets. For every class you make 0-3 tickets (0 if your sure you dont want to play it, 3 if you want it to have a decent change). Put them tidely folded in a hat, hussle and grab one. The important thing is to stick with it. When there is doubt or when there is trouble, find a way to overcome that, but stick with it.

Good luck

@mercury: My idea of RP in a MMORPG is mostly my role while “on duty” i mean,i could either be an archer or a mage, but if both do the same thing (example: kiting to death enemies) then i tend to group the two.

Like you said,i have to invest time, that’s the issue: after a few hours of gameplay, even while enjoying it,i ask myself if the time i’m investing is invested right (of course i could be doing something more useful than playing on a computer,it’s relative)…so my mind gets puzzled.
I do not feel a bad player,i’ve done well with any class (in sPvP,where i tried all of them, deeply enough), but i don’t feel to have that balance between power, versatibility and viability.
Example: The engineer and the mesmer are worth it,however will they get nerfed/buffed? Will they get the bugs fixed? Wich one has the best look? Wich one does feel the better? and so on.
If i’d be a fan of cleric classes i’d already be a level 80 guardian, instead i like “fancy and twisty” classes, what now?

I feel like a little boy who has to choose between chamander, squirtle and bulbasaur…just…hurr…what now? You like all 3,but only one will be yours;that’s where i get blocked and bumped back :s

I “invested” time in 9 characters so far. Love them all. As a matter of fact the 9th was not supposed to be, I just wanted a starter skin. I should not have played with the character editor. But I blinked. I looked. And the sylvari looked back at me.

You are putting too much pressure on yourself. Recently I’ve decided to mainly play my charr warrior. What do I need conditions for when the mobs drop? Besides, mine are bleeding like crazy, must be my claws.

No class should do everything exceptionally well – that would have to be considered “overpowered”.

Close your eyes and wait which character rises to the top in your mind – you say you’ve played them all and done well with all of them (sPvP).

Hold that image.

Now be. Be ButterOfDeath and command butterflies or let arrows rain from the sky. Your time is now.

Here, consider listening to (something like) this.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

if i could COMMAND butterflies i’d be level 81 by now…lel…and actually my time can’t be now cause the PC is broken

lolololol anyway…if i close my eyes i see a Mesmer, but then i see an Engineer too,and then i see this image (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/9/92/Professions_reveal_12_%28highlighted%29.jpg) but with ingame characters instead of drawn characters…what now?

Let’s cut down the decision between Mesmer and Engineer…Mhmmmm…

Make a Mesmer and an Engineer
I have both at 80 and I find them to be the mokittenn of all the classes- I am leveing a Ranger now and it is a great solo class but not as complex.
If you like complicated “twisty” classes the go with Mesmer and Engi.

Don’t worry about nerfs and such- I have been playing my Mesmer since launch and Mesmers has been nerfed so much it is not funny.
But you know what?
I see it as a challenge to adapt and it is not really hard.
Ultimately if you enjoy the class you will enjoy playing it.

Why not play both at the same time?
I usually do that- I normally play at least 3 of my characters per day.

It makes for nice a change of pace and leveling is pretty fast anyway.
Make two different races or just level in different zones.
If you do this you might find one that pulls ahead and then you know which one will be first.

If you are in a hurry go for Engineer first – my Engi leveled really quickly while my Mesmer took ages back when the game launched
