I’m one of those “first one to play but had to quit mid way and returning now” players lol… and sure a lot of things have changed… Ascended gear and account-bound legendaries!!! omg!!!…

Anyway question is… Can you just use your golds to completely buy ascended gears? (armors and weapons)… I mean Ascended gear once obtained it’s accound bound… but can all of the materials needed to make one be bought?

Side-question: Can I also do the same in legendaries? (not meaning that I buy the complete one from TP but buying materials to make one)

The materials to make them can be bought, but it’ll run you something like 100 gold per piece. You cannot buy the materials for a legendary off of the TP. You can buy most of the basic stuff, but a lot of it will require you to do the work. If you want to buy a legendary though you can just plain buy one from the TP.

Welcome back! Adding to Morsus’ post, you cannot buy any of the ascended trinkets like rings, accessories or amulets from the Trading Post either, those must be earned as well.

You also cant buy all mats for ascended gear either. The mats for the vision crystal are account bound as well kitten laurels per recipe.

I think even less than that. Some ascended gear are cheaper than 100g. Heavy ascended also cheaper than light ascended. Ascended accessories can be obtained more easily by laurel, guild commendations and fractals.

I really think that ascended gear needs to be available on the TP. Not so that it is easier to access, but so that ascended drops become valuable.

One of the best feelings in GW1 was when you saw a max gold item drop. Or a unique skin with those rare r8 requirements.

In GW2 you might get an extremely rare ascended armor or weapon box (using up your luck for the year…) only to find that its a stat combo you don’t want, and you can’t even sell it.

Given how rare ascended weapon and armor drops are I don’t see this affecting the economy either.

They’re not that rare, and having ascended armor doesn’t give you any kitten.

If by “super uber hardcore” you mean “got a slight edge over those who stuck with just exotics,” yep. Full ascended does give some advantage, per a lot of threads doing the math on the matter, but it will never compensate for lack of player skill.

(I’m not saying you lack skill. Just that skill is a bigger factor than the small stat spread in this game).

Note that you first need to level up your crafting profesion to 500 before you can start crafting ascended gear, following the guides here:

means that you can expect to have to pay between 80g to 200g in materials to level them up from 400 to 500 (unless you, like me, decide to take the scenic route and slowly level up as you get the materials… took me few months to level up weaponcrafting, slowly going with armorcrafting now).

Depending on which stats you want, click on the set name and you’ll get to the wiki page listing the different pieces of the set, for example, if you want assassin’s stats you go here:

click on the piece you want to make, and then on “show base ingredients” under the ingredients list, you’ll end up with a list like this one for Saphir’s heavy breastplate:

Note that not all the ingredients can be bought. Piles of Bloodstone Dust can only be found in champion bags, but if you’ve been playing for a little while since they were introduced, chances are you already have too many of them (lots of people just destroy them), Empyreal Fragments you get from dungeons, WvW, jumping puzzles or guild missions, Dragonite Ore you get from world bosses, keep lords in WvW or guild challenges, and Globs of Dark Matter from salvaging exotics (you’d probably have lots of exotics to salvage from leveling the crafting profesions in the first place).

Adding to my earlier post, it would cost roughly 93 gold for Zojja’s Warfists if you TPed it, 12 for the Steel Gauntlet Plates, 21 for the Gauntlet Lining, and 60 for the insignia (okay, 59.99.99 but one copper more and it would be 60!). If you bought the basic materials and refined them it would be closer to 64 gold. When you’re looking to make this stuff, play it smart and look at the prices. Sites like GW2spidy are invaluable.

hmm the thing about this is… you can buy most of the materials for ascended armor (weapon is different story from what I’ve read)

Lets take an example of the Saphir’s armor you’ve mentioned (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Saphir%27s_armor). Whether you’re crafting heavy/medium/light armors there will always be 4 materials (the final materials) which one of them is sure to be “Lesser Vision Crystal” and others are the steel/leather/cloth thingy + insignia which can be bought in TP and to craft… so basicly you can buy 90% of ascended armor… but you STILL need to craft the rest 10% (because of the reason I don’t know >.>) and you also need skill points to craft it (Augur’s Stone)…

Well to put it simple… My dream of buying my way to the highest end-game gear was just flushed down the toilet…

I don’t know why you’re so set on a Legendary, especially if you just want to buy everything as opposed to make them all yourself…

I usually deck my characters in rare armor when they reach 80 and then slowly replace them for exotics as I get them without having to actually purchase them (crafting when I get the materials, karma from temples, dungeons, etc)..

rare = ghetto in my book lol XD… I mean seriously… if you have atleast 1 character at level 80.. and have played more than 20 hours on it… it’s impossible to not have SOME KIND OF CURRENCY to buy exotic (it may be karma, dungeon tokens, wvw token thingy or golds!!!)… i mean as long as you’re not gearing your lvl 80 with full zerker gear, exotic are as cheap as toilet paper… (ok maybe i exaggerate)

You cannot directly buy the gear…..it’s Account Bound from crafting (or NPC purchase in case of Trinkets).
