Q:
My budget will be 750$ roughly. I was looking at this build http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Gamer_Mage_D245
Is that good? I’m not a pc wiz. I am really asking is there somewhere else I can get a better pc for my money?
Oh and I know I 4gb of memory isnt much, but I already have 8gb from when I planned on building it myself.

cyberpowerpc is where my girlfriend got her build. It was actually cheaper to get it through cyberpowerpc than buy all the parts separately. Normally I’m a huge advocate of building your own, but a prebuilt solution was cheaper for some reason.
With that though, the 610 Nvidia graphics card is trash for games. It goes great with a media center pc, but for gaming you’re going to want at least a GTX 650 Ti / AMD equivalent.
I feel like you can do better than a FX4100 as well at the 750 dollar bracket. The FX 4100 would work for GW2, but it will struggle in crowded areas, like LA/WvW battles/some dynamic events. If I might recommend a few choice CPUs, the FX 8350 or an i5 3570K is what will get you the most out of this game. GW2 currently favors higher single thread performance CPUs, which is where Intel strides ahead. Even with the two processors mentioned above, you will still need to overclock them to get 30fps in the most extreme cases in GW2 (mainly 100+ man WvW battles). However, if you have a burning hatred for Intel, the FX 8350 is the choice on AMD’s side.
$750 is your budget? Hmmmm, you might want to go for a micro version. You normaly get two size variants of a motherboard, the normal and micro.
- Asus P8Z77-M-Pro ($128)
- Intel i5-3550 ($194)
- Asus GTX650Ti ($165)
- Kingston HyperX 8G Kit 1600mHz ($52)
- Corsair TX650 ($112)
- Thermaltake V6 ($75)
TOTAL – $726
Afcource this is just my opinion, however I ma from Australia so prices may differ slightly. Furthermore, this total is based on parts alone and you would need to put it together, but these days a 12yo can do it
I built a budget computer for myself last year for $500, I play GW2 on maxed out settings with no problem. Here’s a link to the build, you can use it as a bit of a guide to how much power you may (or may not) need:
+1 to Koehai’s post, very useful tool. Also, that site became popular because of ; http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc
Worth checking out, they have resources on the side that might help as well.

that is actually perfect. Now did you have to buy things like windows and all that stuff? or does it come with it?
I would also strongly urge you to build your own. Especially if you don’t plan on quitting gaming in the next few years.
Fifteen years ago I barely knew how to turn on a PC. I bought my first one at Best Buy, paid way too much and generally got ripped off.
I had a friend who helped me put together my next one. Since then, I have built all my machines…I get a new gaming PC about every two and a half years.
There is no comparison between buying one pre-built and building your own.
You can pick all your components to make sure you are getting quality gear and you have complete control over budget.
If there is any way you can do it yourself, I urge you to.
That being said, that doesn’t look like too bad a deal, other than the video card has to go.
Sourcing for parts and building it yourself would probably be much cheaper than using that site.
I do not reside in the US so I don’t believe I can help too much on your build, I highly recommend visiting a forum that’s dedicated to this and they can help you much better (also remember to provide them details like your location etc.)
You can try visiting http://www.tomshardware.com/ to get started.
Building our own is definitely the way to go as the others have mentioned. My favorite place for computer bits and pieces is http://www.newegg.com I spent around $550 and built a very nice comp last spring. I’d already had the case, HDDs, PSU, Optical Drives and peripherals from the previous build so I was able to go for some better parts on my budget. Newegg has great customer service and the user reviews on the products are a great help when trying to decided between similar parts. http://www.tigerdirect.com and http://www.microcenter.com are two other great sites for things as well. Good luck with your new comp
OP if u have parts to salvage from an old rig, u can build a really good gaming unit for around $700-$800.
Hopefully u have a Sata HDD and Optical drive u can re-use as that will save some money for other parts.
Anyway here is a rig i put together with PCpartpicker. It will run GW2 the best that is currently possible. I’ve recommended this list to other people who have since bought it and they have had nothing bad to say about it.(via this forums PM)

If u need a HDD and Optical drive aswell then to keep it under $800 u can change the grpahics card down to a 650ti. Its not as good as the 7870XT but its still ok.
As for software like the Windows OS. You can transfer that over from ur old rig, even if its a 32bit windows u can transfer it over and download the 64bit version using the same code. This is asuming its windows 7.
If its not then u will have to ‘acquire’ Windows 7 yourself.

I figured you could ‘acquire’ windows. The 750$ im looking at includes the monitor as well so really im looking at a 500-600$ build. I do want to build my own very much. I even started on it a little bit. I have the 8gb memory ddr 1333 model as well as the optical drive and a 460W cooler master elite power supply. I’m just trying to start of with a good build and over time make it a great build.
I’m looking at this budget build. Look good for a starter? As I said I already have the optical drive and power supply, and instead of 4gb ram I got 8 (my laptop is an HP entertainment notebook and it has 4gb ram, and when I put GW2 at ultra its laggy and has about 10 FPS) http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/gaming-desktop-computer.html
