I happened to be having this conversation late last night in Orr, where someone stated that it wasn’t generally known that you can bypass a large majority of the waypoints in the game, using the H button. So, I’d like to lay out the basic idea:

By simply traveling to the Heart of the Mists, from the PvP tab in your hero pane (default key: H), you’ll be taken to a town with an Asura Gate to Lions Arch. From Lions Arch, you can access free gates to Hoelbrak, Divinity’s Reach, Rata Sum, The Grove, and The Black Citadel. From Divinity’s Reach, you can take a gate to Ebonhawke.

So, in short, free, fast, non-waypoint travel is available to reach any of the following destinations, via nearby Asura Gates:

Heart of the Mists > Lions Arch
Lions Arch > Divinity’s Reach, Hoelbrak, Black Citadel, The Grove, Rata Sum
Divinty’s Reach > Ebonhawke

If your destination is Orr, Waypoint down from The Grove, as it’s the closest instant travel location.
