CM story MODE!!?
“Laws are something made by a$$hole.”
I ran it.
We found added a sniper when you first go downstairs, changed fighter to a champion, 3 more adds with the encounter with the Norn, a champion with the next set of adds, made the dogs cast fear and snare, added a bomber and extra sniper with the tree-house folks. So at least double the trash.
At lvl 44, I got 72c and 1340 xp. First time running it today, but I ran with the same character yesterday.
Literally lost 3 silver, cuz we wiped a few times.
I will quote this information from GW2 wiki…:
Champion
“These creatures are often unique and slaying of them can be the sole focus of a single event. They are particularly challenging, sometimes capable of overpowering even groups of players, and can be identified by a golden frame around and swords crossed behind their target portrait. All champions have defiant. "
Now they are adding champion mobs to be roadblocks? What once was focus of entire events gets reduced to critter status, to stall the players before bosses and bosses, with the resistance leader and the golem not more unique than some random guy in a cooridor? I mean, we already have the sergent in the Norn guy’s room being champion – and I can work with that. A boss inbetween the Gate Guard and the final boss. Sure. But with so mant champions thrown in, they feel cheapened and it make the only notable things in Explorable Mode the Legendaries.
By this difficulty, all the veteran ranks in Explorable Mode should be Champion ranked, considering Explorable should be hard and end-game compared to Story Mode, which should be doable at the level thereof, or 40 at CM?… It just doesn’t feel right.
I didn’t find the difficulty of story mode to be that outrageous, the rewards at the end however i did find to be extremely pathetic. I just guided some lvl 40’s through it on my 80 guardian, we only wiped twice the entire time, with people going down on each fight pretty much, which isn’t too bad when you compare it to AC at level 30. What really irks me is how badly they nerfed the rewards at the end, i literally lost money after i fixed my armor ( only 3 pieces damaged at that, not even a complete repair like i’ve had with some groups). The group didnt even go through CM all that fast, and i only got 1 silver and some copper for a reward when it used to be like 22 silver for an 80. I can see where the changes to the mobs would be a bit much for some groups, but they need to up the rewards for this story mode dungeon, I’m getting the vibe the rewards are based on time spent ect so you cant speed run it. However it seems they need to tweak that for CM so you can get a decent reward for it, even a bad group can get through CM in a decent time and still get crap rewards.
i did it just now. its freaking hard and i waste my 72s for the repair and
ant the end i get 4k exp this is totaly wasting all my time and money
good bye cm
“Laws are something made by a$$hole.”
I finished it on my 50 Guardian. Our group was 3 Guardians, an Engineer and a Thief. The only thing that Anet is guilty of is making this more fun.
And reducing the reward way too much. Imo it should have stayed 15s+ for the very first time It’s completed on a character, and ~5 silver for runs after.
I’m 2 stronk nerf pls Caudecus come at me. Etc. Don’t cry for lower levels, they can manage. Cry for yourself
I did it last night after the patch. The difficulty of it is retarted for the amount of rewards you get. Took us about a hour to complete cuz of newer guildies that hadn’t ran it b4.
20k EXP for me @ lvl 59 and like 4 silver. Used to get 58k exp @ lvl 58… The time spent to complete the dungeon made me feel like i never want to do CM again.
CM was everyone little piece of heaven aside from AC and TA. Why take that and make it a piece of hell?

CM was already pretty random (with frequent 1-shot kills for light armour wearers – even with toughness traits / upgrades) and unnecessarily frustrating (no waypoints, repair anvil placed too far from the normal path), but now it’s completely pointless to play it, regardless of the rewards.
The problem aren’t even the “champions” (whose only function seems to be to waste players’ time with a repetitive fight that goes on for far too long), the problem is the normal mobs. Instant kills, stunlocking, etc..
It’s simply not fun.

This cahnge is stupid and in no way fun.
but every thread has a wannabe pro in it claiming there’s nothing wrong and this thread is no different
I actually like very difficult small group action. But I want something for it. It’s better to afk-auto fire at a dynamic event than to get a group for this anymore.
Maybe it was too easy or too good a payoff. But to more than double the time to clear while also cutting the rewards to 1/10 what they were. The dungeon devs have no sense of moderation. It’s gotta be bone-crushing, unrewarding, and you’ll grind open world to afford it.
I feel stupid for buying this game. I should have seen it coming.
Maybe CM was a little too easy, but now it seems to have been made too hard. Not to mention the fact it’s bugged-mobs can come THROUGH walls and closed doors, making encounters that much more difficult. I really think you guys need to fix this, ANet. This dungeon isn’t even worth running anymore, because the rewards don’t match the level of difficulty.
Had a blast running CM with guildies last night – loving the xp and making some coin…decided to run it this morning – noticed it was harder and thought…no biggie – the xp will be worth the difficulty change….when the 4k xp popped up at the end I wanted to chuck my computer out the window…..booo….Madi isn’t a happy girl today

What did people expect was going to happen with every ‘how can I level faster?’ or ‘how can I earn money?’ thread having posts like ‘CM, 80 in 2 days, son!’. Anet probably considered the entire story mode an exploit, and instead of mass banning people for taking advantage of it, they just destroyed it altogether.

so why not just cap xp?
why make it ten times harder as well as give out insanely little xp

Damage control. They need to do damage control since the contents between CM and zerging in strait+ is causing a lot of people to get to level 80 faster than they previously intended, with lower skill level then they’d intended (because you only learn so much by running in zerg groups and CM). So yeah. Did they handled it elegantly? Probably not as much as they could. Did they responded in time? Probably a bit late, but it’s about on time.
I wouldn’t say “Good job”, but they did what they could, and they are suffering the backlash from their playerbase. They had to pick between a fast salvage and calming the player base. One causes unhappy player base, the other causes a premature group of lv. 80s making the MMO’s life expentancy shorter.
ran it.
difficulty didn’t feel THAT bad. i actually have to pay attention now rather then only on bosses. that’s a nice change. they added, perhaps, too much trash.
and, ofc, the rewards for running subsequent story modes should be bumped up – but not to the level they were at before.
I would seriously like to know and understand exactly what the developers were thinking when they changed CM to the way it is now.
I would also like know what they were smoking – whether it was crack, weed, or either one laced with PCP, because I can say this – dungeons are a terrible, terrible thing now.
I can understand addressing the experience and the money at the end of it being too much – I completely get that.
What I don’t get is how the living HELL you do what you did to it.
- I pulled white armor, yes whites from the chests with one blue.
- The mobs have been exponentially buffed to the point of unplayable – there is so much knockback, AoE fearing, chain stunning, and one-shotting of players, that you literally cannot play and enjoy this utter failure.
- The experience and money has been nerfed to worthless – much like the testing that I guarantee didn’t take place before this went live. Honestly, if I just got done going through that C-R-A-P that I just ran for that little experience, loot and coin… What is the point of even going in there?
You had a knee-jerk reaction to solve a problem of people running this to death. You know what you could have done? Simple – just nerf experience and money at the end.
No, instead, you nerfed everything beneficial and increased the worst possible. There is no balance, there was no thought, there was no point in what you (Arenanet) did other than to make players disgruntled to the point of not running a dungeon for some kind of benefit, even if it was a little one.
I just runned CM Story, and im so &/%# dissapointed at Arenanet.
Ok i can understand the nerf on exp & money, but why make it soo much harder???
Every f-ing mob now has knockback of some kind it feels. What yesterday was fun todo is now totally crap. Story mode should be a lot easier than this.
OK if you have a guild of 5people doing it, you might do it with not that many wipes, but 5 randoms, where 2-3 never have done it before… not fun!
I have put every single trait point in defense/vitality, and before i entered the dungeon bought the best blue gear i could for my level, and still the mobs just killed me like i was not wearing any armor.
I don’t see anything wrong with having a spot where you can grind out some levels and some coin. Especially for those of us that are semi-casual players. There is so much to do in game….I take advantage of every aspect of this game and love it!…so what if I want to spend an hour before I go to bed and gain a level or two and put some coin in my purse…if you use it to grind to 80 and then scream that you’re bored that’s your own dang fault.

There is when AN isn’t making as money as they had hoped by selling gems.

If they actually had more stuff worth buying at the gem store (ex., specific pets, specific dyes, more town clothes, emote and voice packs for your characters, etc. – all things that people repeatedly said during the betas they would be interested in buying) and if the game actually made it easy for players to equip town clothes (instead of forcing them to go to the hero panel and then reverting back to their armour as soon as they take a little falling damage), they would probably be making a lot more.
Anyway, I doubt the low quality of the dungeons is related to the gem store. It’s just related to poor internal playtesting and a flawed philosophy that seems to put “challenge” (effectively meaning difficulty or time consumption) above fun, even when that “challenge” is achieved simply through higher numbers or more randomness, and not through more complex mechanics that actually require and reward players’ ability to adapt to the flow of encounters.
People are doing this too quickly? Let’s add a champion with 10x the HP and make them spend 5 minutes auto-attacking and yawning. People are making it through without dying? Let’s add chain stuns and one-shot kills that work through walls. And let’s have just one spawn location, all the way at the start, so they have to spend 30 seconds walking if they die. Surely that will make them love this game!
The amount of whining never ceases to amaze. If you like CM so much you want to run story mode a billion times, go do it. All this “b-b-but is hardeeeer” is nothing but pathetic – you have new things to deal with. It’s not the old CM anymore. Learn it again.
One week later we’ll have the same people say it’s just right, and three weeks from now the same people will say it’s too easy (because mob X lost 1 HP in the patch notes). AGAIN. Like with every other dungeon out there.
When your lvl 80s get gear from a level 40 dungeon advertised for lvl 40 it is to easy for them to get beefy because they deal tons of damage compared to lvl 40s even while being scaled down. it is expected that to nerf the lvl 80’s they had to nerf the lvl 40’s by twice as much.
Don’t advertise a dungeon for lvl 40s when you are going to balance it to a scaled down group of 80s. The scaling down thing is awesome for so many reasons but the problem is putting your desirable sets of gear in content made for half the level the gear is wanted at.
Gear for 80s should be available everywhere sure but you should not have to punish those who are not at max level for other people wanting their max level gear.

Its not that it is a harder dungeon. It is that even scaled down your stats are playing a big role in what you can do. Don’t rage at people playing a dungeon for their level who are mad that it has now been scaled to be a challenge for max level characters running it.
CM is unplayable with current status. I wiped like 9 times with whole team on TS3 and quite good players too. We had no 80s, we all were in 40-50 range with quite decent gear for the level and we agreed – CM is currently simply unbeatable without legendary clad 80 team and definitely NOT fun.
I have a feeling most people got too used to the really easymode version. It’s no more difficult than TA or AC. The change brought it in line with the other dungeons. It’s no longer doable in under 10 minutes, it takes 30-40. Storymode dungeons were not made to be farmable, as one of the devs said recently, which is why the rewards were lowered.
Mist Angels [Mist] – Piken Square
The way it was before was broken in my opinion. lets run through a zone in 20 minutes and gain half a level off it.
The only thing that is somewhat annoying on it now is the knockback. It seems the Cutpurse/Warriors can knock back and down every 3 seconds.
Other then that me and my guild group never really wipe. There is an occasional death due to a crit from a Sniper.
I played it last night after many wipe outs we got to the tree house area with the sniper and just gave up after being wipped from 6 bandits about 5 times.
I haven’t cleared a single dungeon yet. The dam thing forced me to use every weapons set and skill sets I have on my elementalist. Thats like 25 skills per set so I had well over 100 to use and still couldn’t win.
Figure that out.
It’s possible to clear it – my group managed it, but it was extremely difficult. The knockbacks were the one thing that most frustrated us – they are a bit ridiculous.

Let me toss my thoughts in to the pot as well.
Iv done CM about 6-7 times successfully since the “update” and I for one agree that it is far to difficult for the rewards.
If you run it more then once a day the rewards at the end are just pathetic. I ran CM story three times in the course of a 24 hour day and by the 3rd time at lvl 42 I received only 2 bars of exp. 40+ minutes of work, 5-10 silver in repair costs, 0 yellows, 1 green, and a few blues. I understand your desire to prevent people from spamming it, but why not put a limit of 2 runs per day with normal rewards? Or two runs per character as it seems the run count is account wide.
CM Explorer is a whole different ball game.. I ran that once as a 80 warrior and the amount of “tricks” we had to use to even make it to the end were crazy. One room had 15 bandits in a circle, meaning each person can take 3 themselves? I dont think so. We had to use invis and go past them shooting them so they got stuck in place while the rest ran past…. Then you have rangers that shoot extremely far, much further then I can possibly shoot at that level, some with the ability to kill you in 3 normal hits. I understand CM explorer needs to be harder to prevent people from farming badges, but it’s a bit over the top right now.
