Ok, so I’m thinking about getting a cooler over the stock one I have for my i5, now there is nothing currently wrong with it. But I’ve been doing some reading on one site and another, and it would seem that the stock fans seem to fail quite often. Now my last stock cooler lasted right up till my PC just got too old. But seeing as I payed alot for my PC and I want it to last, and don’t want to take any unnecessary risks.

Now I have a corsair spec 03 case and an MSI H81M-E34 motherboard. What cooler should I get? I don’t want to spend too much, and I’m not really looking for liquid cooling as I don’t want to spend hundreds of pounds (yeah UK suppliers would be great). Also if the cooler comes with high end pre-applied thermal paste that would be great as i don’t want to risk putting to much or too little paste on my self.

I use the Thermaltake Contact 21 in my i5 3570k @ 4.1GHz , it is quite cheap and pretty good, I live in Brazil so the weather is quite hot and I don’t have AC, and my system is working with Overclock for almost 3 years and it never past over 85ºC, usually it stays at ~75ºC

Coolermaster 212 evo is another good budget cooler, easier access to clean it than the stocker and a more secure mounting solution. Also with your case you shouldn’t need to pull the mobo to mount the backplate although an additional hand may be needed.

The stock one is fine if you’re not overclocking but I was never satisfied with the connection of the plastic push pins and finally broke one removing it to clean it, and always feel more comfortable running cooler than warmer.

Hyper 212 Evo (which is actually what I use) if you’re on a budget, Noctua NH-D15 if you’re not

A $35-ish popular cooler is the Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO. Yes we are all talking about the same one here.
