So getting back into the game and trying to talk a friend into playing. He’d be purchasing a new copy so completely new account.

Since it’s a new account, can he select severs that are locked such as my server, BlackGate? If not that would likely be a deal breaker, as we’re mostly interested in WvW.

Obviously Blackgate is one of the more popular servers so its not always easy to get in but not impossible. Several of my guildies actually transferred there not too long ago (though I absolutely refused to do so myself lol). Point being, if a person is patient and keeps trying, its definitely possible to get on that server. However, a simpler course of action would be, if he can’t get into Blackgate, you could just transfer to the server he chooses such as one that is still highly active but not currently full. Blackgate is not the only option out there.

You forgot something important: it’s all megaserver now. You simply can ‘guest’ to a different server. The only exlusion is WvW where you have to have it as a home server. But you can play the whole PvE content as a guest on a different server.

They didn’t forget anything important. As stated in the original post, they are mostly interested in WvW.

@OP: a messy work-around would be for you to create a free account on whatever server your friend ends up on. Your main account can subsidize your friend’s account easily and you can level up together. Eventually, your friend could move their main (and only) account or you might be ready to move your own main.

Alternatively, you could just do that for WvW.
