Can't play with AVG firewall up? Why Not?

I did before I even posted this and all it says is to disable your firewall if you want to play the game and make sure you’re running it as administrator. I’m running it as administrator and for Ncsoft to tell us to disable our firewalls is akin to telling someone who loses their keys to keep their door unlocked. It’s lame and not very professional at all! Then again I don’t expect much more form them considering they allowed a ton of accounts to get hacked as soon as this game went live. Just goes to show you how inept their tech support really is!
Sorry, just calling it as I see it.
They didn’t allow anything… shoddy password/account habits from USERS allowed a ton of accounts to get hacked.
Also, disable your AVG firewall to play, reenable it afterwards… or try contacting AVG’s support instead of GW2.
but my advice is to get avast! anti-virus, as it’s far superior to anything i’ve seen out there. (besides maybe the guys over at malwarebytes.)

I guess that’s really the crux of the matter, must GW2 support every anti-spyware/virus/firewall that’s on the internet or should security apps be focused on delivering the best least conflicting service.

Ok to clarify. the Key is the gameplay experience (i.e. what you presently don’t have) and the door is your computer security (which you now need to leave open)? That’s a horrible analogy.
did you really check the tech suuport forums?
because there is a thread on how to configure AVG firewall…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Configuring-AVG
perhaps searching more thoroughly before taking a pop at Anet and getting angry, will get you better results in future :/

Actually a search DID NOT turn this up, at least not before yesterday, they must have done some work on their search engine and included that in the patch that came out yesterday?

After going in and looking at the post a little more closely I could tell that the post was written in a hurry, not very well done, the directions are wrong at the beginning and your everyday average computer user would have a “VERY” hard time trying to follow what was written. It takes time and experience knowing how to word something so that people of every skill level can follow it. That post does not meet those requirements, sorry.
Did YOU look at what the post said? Did YOU try and follow the directions? Remember, not everyone has the latest version of AVG, some have ONLY the antivirus, some have the internet security suite, which is different and you have to know what you’re doing to follow what was written in that post.
BUT, at least it is there now and available for those who want to search for it.

Obviously you have no clue what goes into software engineering? You learn early on how to write user access control into your software so that your customers can only do what YOU want them to do. If they are allowed to create simple, easy, stupid login names and passwords they will. If you allow them to login using 1234 and have a password of abcd then they will, it’s up to the software engineer to make sure that they are creating a secure environment for those who want to use it. Only a simpleton would blame the customer for having his account hacked. Giving your login name and password to someone else is not being hacked, it just plain ole stupid.
As for your advice about what antivirus to use, dropping your firewall while you play then raising it after, thanks, but no thanks, I’ll pass! I like to keep the information on my computer ON my computer and not someone else’s :P~
You should stop giving out advice until you become educated enough to actually be in a position to do so, from what I’m reading you’re not there yet!
Have a great day!
