Can't stick to a class
If you want the best ranged dps, the Grenade Engineer is at your service.
Generally used a relatively simple build, without much support.

I think engineer is your best bet in that case.
The grenade kit gives you lots of conditions + lots of damage + you are less dependend on precision. Besides that you still have 2 more utility slots which you can use for example bomb kit for some nice combofields and/or the toolkit for blocks, cc and confusion.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Play pvp to get a feel for what you want. Watch vids on youtube.
Engi is best dps at superlong ranges or best AoE heal and best tank.
Warrior is best dps at melee ranges, second best burst, best controller.
Guardian is best damage mitigation on group, 2nd best tank, second best AoE heal, second best booner, best condition remover.
Necro is best AoE conditioner, not that good in direct damage as they don’t have Cleave, 2nd best condition remover.
Mesmer is best dps against a single target and best self heal, second best stealther.
Thief is best stealther, best burst, second best dps at melee, second best controller.
Ranger is best single target conditioner, bad in direct damage, third best tank, easiest class.
Elementalist is best AoE, best booner, third best AoE heal, best speed, hardest class. The Fiery Greatsword elite has the honor of being the only weapon that can do 7 digit damage numbers in a minute.
Choose what you are looking for then spec an optimised build for that role. If you still can’t decide, play all of them.

Play an Engineer if that’s what you’re leaning towards. Grenades have nice range and do great damage. Rifle builds have decent range, good CC, and good burst up close. Grenades naturally support the group by stacking vulnerability so the the group does more damage as a whole, so it’s not even something you have to worry about. And using healing turret as your heal naturally supports others without you having to worry about it, as it’s healing and clearing conditions for you and them. A true support build would probably be setting up and blasting combo fields, which helps, but it’s not always needed so….
Pretty sure mesmer and guard are above engi in aoe heals.
Engi as best tank is arguable.
Discounting cleave necros have great single target damage.
Honestly it sounds like the issue is on your end. If you keep making new characters, getting them to lvl 10 and then losing interest, then one of two things is true:
A) The gameplay itself is not resonating with you and maybe this isn’t the game for you, or
B) You don’t have the discipline to stick with a class and really get to know it.
If it’s A, then you might try different game modes before moving on to a different game. If it’s B, then try sticking with a class to at least level thirty and see how you feel then.
As for a fun, ranged class with good DPS, I can’t recommend elementalist enough.
I’m just stuck between Ranger and Engi now..
I just want good damage and easy leveling/fun for PvE then decent at PvP endgame.

You basically described engi
get to 80 first
I leveled a necromancer to 80 when the game came out and really enjoyed the minion build for pve despite all the bad things said about it in the forum. It doesn’t really shine until you get a bunch of traits, but once you do you can have your minions siphon health back to you on every hit while you heal them (and yourself) with a heal well, all while chaining your own damage spells from afar. It’s a ton of fun commanding your own little meat shield army.
The Ranger is super easy to play and does straightforward good dps. The Engineer is a more complex class in the sense that you have many skills and therefore many combinations but this is why it is more fun to play in my opinion. His dps is more or less the same in my view to the Ranger.
I’m still confused because Nade spam gets annoying but then again I do kill mobs quicker..
I just don’t wanna be that ‘supporter’ class
(edited by ASVP.9752)
I recommend engi over ranger because ranger is in a very bad spot for large scale wvw atm. Ranger is great small team or solo, but overall I think engi is more enjoyable because of all the skills they have access to.
I think I’ma just continue Engi.. all I need is a good build and I’ll be good

Equip bomb kit. Stack power. #4 on bomb kit will basically make you immune to damage in pve. Use elixir b, medkit, and rocket boots once available for fast movement speed. Put first 10 traits into explosions and grab forcefully explosives. Put next 10 into tools and get speedy kits. You can now use whatever utilities you want with bomb kit. Then put 10 more into alchemy and get invigorating speed. You now have perma vigor and swiftness. The rest of your points can go wherever.

There are no “Supporter”-profession. Some have it easier than others (like the Guardian who’s profession mechanic is support-oriented) but the game never forces you into a certain build based on your profession.
The Grenade-engineer can be played entirely without supportive elements. Don’t worry about not being able to play as a 100% killing machine.
If you find the Nade-spamming annoying… it’s not going to change. I personally found it boring, but if you want to max out your damage, you’re kinda stuck with them… Or bombs, but then you can’t be 1’500 units away from your target
And make sure that you’ve the right kind of ground-targeting (the one where the circle appears when you hold down the key, and the attack is fired when you release the key)
That makes Nading a whole lot smoother
