I have chosen a server to play on and have 5 characters I enjoy playing.
But now I found that some of my friends play on another server. Not wanting to abandon my 5 characters on the server I play on now, I wonder if I can switch between servers when I play.
I have 5 characters on one server and they will stay there, but when I log in I can choose another server and create new characters on the new server. I hope this makes sense

No. Servers are account wide. They were supposed to have a guesting feature where you could play with your friends on another server without leaving your home server but your guess is as good as mine when they’re actually going to deliver on that.
Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

At the moment, servers are accountbound, you can switch your entire account for free to another server and you will keep all your characters and items (except influence in guilds you are a part of).
In due time (though im doubting they will ever get it ready -sigh-) there will be a fully functional guesting service, allowing you to play with friends on a different server with just a click of your mouse. till then that only works in dungeons.
