Only thing holding you back is yourself,
If “fun” to you is only due to the incentive of gear/stat progression then im am sorry

Do DEs, explore, play WvW, play sPvP, gather money for money’s sake, play the trading post, travel around helping people with difficult to get objectives, try for 100% map completion, get an alt, max out all craftings, find farming locations, collect equipment skins, get 100% achievements, do all dungeons and all branches of dungeons, get influence for guilds, kill bunnies, do jumping puzzles, capture amusing screenshots, meander randomly...

I’m partial to WvW and random meandering myself.

After reaching 80… I went to every map, searching every corner, gathering everything I could… and crafted my gear, my weapons and I’m working towards 100% completion with the WvW maps.

Now I’m saving/farming for gold to buy something… either the Commander book, or the Cultural set, or attempt a Legendary… while I level my new, level 30ish Elementalist.

And yes, it is fun, I enjoy the combat and exploration (there’s about 5~8 jumping puzzles I’ve missed, even though I completed EVERY MAP! – except the WvW ones), and every now and then, PvP.

But after I’m done with a lot of these farming stuffs, I think I’d spend the whole time online fighting in WvW wars – after finding a guild focused to it.

For PvE in Guild Wars 1, after you reached level 20(the cap there) the only incentives around were to farm gold towards better armor so you could look sexy in PvP.

GW2 looks like GW1 all over again, however this time there’s no point in PvE’ing because sPvP is a totally separate world with an ungodly long time to grind for armor and sPvP is flat out boring as there’s only 1 game type: conquest. Conquest is NOT “PvP”. The only other PvP “option” is WvW which is a zergfest I personally want no part of.

I agree with your sentiment of “What now?” after hitting max. Yes GW2 is beautiful, but I didn’t buy this game for PvE. I define “PvE” as immersing myself in a living breathing world. I don’t care whether it’s “free” or paid, the key features that hold my interest for PvE in an MMO are:
1) Non-instanced housing
2) Conquering cities(with brute force, not farming conquest Jade Quary maps for alliance points like in GW1)
3) Crafting with a sense that you are contributing something useful/unique to the world, that you’re recognized for. Not simply grinding away for self-sufficiency.
4) Reasons to attend dev-ran events such as limited edition skins/items that won’t be available again(but these types of things are only rare occasion).

I’ve learned that if a game’s “PvE” doesn’t have some of these key features above, you’ll always end up in one of these “what now?” moments.

Aside from #4, I personally see no hope for GW2’s PvE, at its current state. It’s the same ol same ol, another masked hamster wheel to no where. I was looking forward to great PvP in Guild Wars 2, but I’m not getting that at the moment which is what’s the biggest shame and my biggest qualm here.

To answer your question, I’d tell you “go farm cash to get better weaps”, but I’m afraid once you’ve done that you’ll be back here asking that very same question again. When it comes to PvE, it just looks like GW2 is just going to be another one of those MMOs powering up the hamster wheel by pumping out new lands, races ect.. instead of working on making their current world a truly living and breathing environment. But hey it’s made WoW millions right?

They’re better off adding additional PvP game types like Capture the Leader, Team Death Match and Capture the Flag, as well as GvG and Party vs Party within the PvE environment. These are easy solutions that will solve the current dire state of PvP – what GW is supposed to be known for.

Having another type of PvP is a good idea to avoid getting bored doing the same thing over and over again.
But also having more maps helps.

But if they separate the types there might have fewer people playing a particular type, so I’d suggest them adding them as a “bonus” instead of goals.
Pretty much how hostages works in CS, they’re the main objective of the map, but killing all the enemies also solves the problem so…

I don’t think there would be an issue by adding pvp alternatives. I think people WANT to play team deathmatch, capture the flag, and the like. Territories is one of the most boring game types and can’t even be classified as pvp. Its “objective”, not “Team Slayer”.
So, albeit fighting is involved, it’s not the focus, and we absolutely need more game types.

I’m feeling the emotions of the OP, as my friends and I are already getting bored, which is sad as I felt like GW1 had MUCH more replayability, and better PVP right out of the gate…so other then a prettier face, I’m feeling this game is not as good as the first for now.

What makes this even worse, is you just don’t feel the ‘town comraderie" that you did in gw1. With a million instances, and half the people invisible to help increase fps problems by the devs, it just doesn’t have the same feel in the towns. No one cares about that legendary you are working so hard for, when no one can see you half the time unless they are 5 feet away.

OP,
Did you see the sticky at the top of the “Players Helping Players” forums section (where this thread resides)?

If you haven’t, you may benefit from reading through it:

P.S. For the record, I’m having fun on my 80 doing many of the things outlined in that stickied thread.
