Cancelling a guild upgrade that uses Merits

Does cancelling a guild upgrade that uses Merits return the Merits to you in the way that Influence is returned?

Any information would be appreciated.

Theoretically it should, but since the upgrade my guild is building right now is the Guild Puzzle Unlock I’m not exactly keen to try cancelling it.
