Cannot Charm Ranger Pet
Do you already have that pet tamed?
You can only tame each pet once.
Hit K to look at your current pets, then hit the drop down under their picture to see the list of pets you have (and have not) unlocked already.

And if this is already someone else’s pet, it will still give you the option but will not do anything. Maybe I only see that when someone is logging in or entering a town? Like, the pet arrives before they do?
I just tried pressing K and nothing is happening.
What level is your character? I think they restrict pet taming until a certain level now.

Are you less than level 5? You don’t access the ranger mechanics till then.
Also, to ask the obvious, are you sure you’re a ranger?

You’d press K to look at your list of already tamed pets, to confirm that you haven’t already gotten that one.

I am guessing you are not level 5 yet (as Fluffball mentions). However, it may be helpful to read the wiki page on ranger pets to give you an overall understanding of pets in general. Good luck.
