Cant decide. . .
Go with either Necro or Ranger because when you’re on the bottom the only place to go is up. They get little buffs every patch.
Memser and Thief however keep getting nerfed.
You just have to choose whether you want to be a scholar or an adventurer.
Umh. I would not base the choice on possible future buffs/nerfs. No nerf has yet made any of my characters unable to survive the environment on their own and if there have been buffs, I have not really noticed. I play all 8 classes at least a tiny bit each day and one or two a bit longer.
The choice should be based on what is most interesting/fun for you to play. Sadly, I enjoy all of mine, so I cannot simply tell you to pick one.
Necromancer is the one I have played the most. She does fine with her minions and she does get a pretty nice amount of drops in events because I use staff (=several AoE attacks) for those. She is also the 100% map completionist and the one that has done most of my dungeon runs.
Ranger is mostly very relaxing to play. Collecting pets all over the worls was also fun. I fear I pick the active pets by what I like instead of stats.
Mesmer requires getting used to at the start, but it is a very surviveable class. I found exploring and not dying easiest with the Mesmer.
Thief is fun. Can be a bit squishy, but not that hard after all. My 8th character is a thief of lvl 68 and I have not found him nearly as challenging as I feared.
Whatever the class, kiting and dodging are the survival tools for this game. I am not as good at it as I should be yet, but working on it.
