So I’m looking to actually gear up my Engineer, and really wanted “Rabid” accessories. I saw that you cannot craft them and the only exotics you can get are from Captain Rotbeard’s chest and The Shatterer.

I’ve been trying to farm Shatterer whenever I have a chance, but I’m really confused on the chest.

I went to the ship where he is… He had already spawned, so I killed him. I found a giant chest in the bottom of the ship guarded by a Veteran, but it was open and I couldn’t access it. I ended up leaving confused, thinking maybe I needed to kill him near the chest since I kited him to the top of the ship (needed extra room so I could see what was happening and to get less respawns).

Later on, I came back and he was not spawned. I went to the bottom, got excited when I saw the chest closed, and opened it. Of course, that spawned Captain Rotbeard, so I killed him again (this time I waited until he was already near the top of the ship so it wouldn’t be too far away from where he was supposed to be, I was paranoid that would matter). I then fought my way back to the bottom of the ship after reading that a chest spawns after killing him, but I’m standing here with nothing to show for it :\

Is the chest just the loot you get from the boss or am I completely missing something?

Thanks in advance, I’d love to get these accessories without having to buy them (I’m poor :\)

There was a separate chest next to his down there at the bottom that was on the daily-per-character rate for giving you at least one rare and then random other drops. When the update came to make meta boss chests only give you that guaranteed rare once-per-day-per-account, it seems this chest also was removed.

Which is kind of a good thing -- it was really easy to just run around down to it and loot it for free, basically.

Does that mean the accessory that apparently only comes from that chest is gone? That’s pretty annoying considering its one of only two exotic “rabid” accessories that I could find…

I understand your pain as my first character I geared in exotics at 80 was my Necro, needing these stats. Be thankful you can get yours from Karma vendors, I could only get armor from those at the time and not accessories

All I can advise is settle with Rampager’s for now until you can get Ascended accessories.

I’d like to say I hope Rabid become craftable, but then I’d be lying as them not being such is a huuuuuge money maker for me.

Besides the Rabid stat armors from Orr temple vendors, I’m pretty sure at least Dwayna temple has Rabid back piece and amulet for Karma. There might be ring/accessory too but I’m not sure.

There are 26 of Rotbeard’s Treasure on the trading post as of this post for a little over 3 gold.

However I’d suggest saving up 42k karma (per piece) on one of your characters and visiting Historian Vermoth (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Historian_Vermoth) for rabid accessories instead.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I have like 300k Karma, I just couldn’t find Rabid accessories to buy with it. Thank you <3 <3 <3

One of the pages I made sure to bookmark and use as a base reference when gearing characters was "Equipment Acquisition by Stats" (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats). It helped me look at what I could and could not do with karma or crafting and when I would need to look to the TP or dungeons (skins aside).

I actually saw this, but got confused by some wording on either this page or another wiki page that claimed the two drops were the only “Rabid” equivalents obtainable. I then saw the “trinkets” section of Karma and assumed (incorrectly) that it was only rings and amulets.

I’ll just be more careful next time. Thanks again!
