Casters Vs Meleers PVP
you definitely need some serious defenses against melee atm
especially as an elementalist
Casters definitely have an unfair advantage in zerg v zerg, but in small group pvp I think melee classes excel much more.
The problem isn’t that melee is overpowered or range is underpowered or vice versa. The issue with most players is the fact that each class is played very differently. If you are ranged you are going to have to learn to “kite”. If you can’t “kite” or aren’t very good at it you will die very quickly to melee classes. Also you should expect your fights as a ranged class to last a lot longer due to the fact you have to “kite”. People who are good a “kiting” are a real pain for melee players because they can’t get in close to do any damage. Really annoying and frustrating. As for this game, the classes seem fairly balanced.
keep in mind, there aren’t really “melee classes” or “ranged classes”
every class can do both
Make sure you’re using your dodge skills as a caster. They are invaluable to avoiding damage, but do take some getting used to.
Learn to play a bit better? You can swap weapons, try use melee to stun or daze or something, then put some distance between you and kite.
(on a side note, the amount of people complaining about this is insane! This pvp is fine to me, it just takes more skill and reaction than standing there and pressing your buttons..)
Uh eles can’t swap weapons in combat like other classes can. Have to be out of combat to do that.
eles and eng are the only classes that cant weapon swap, due to the massive amounts of abilities they get from single weapons compared to other classes. But key to ele is kiting, and skill management, I never ran into much difficulty as an ele, can burn through most things, just depends on your playstyle.
elementalists are hands down the worst class in the game.. being locked into melee, mid-range, or long-range, while all the other classes are swapping between roles with just a press of a button… it’s hopeless. an out-of-combat weapon swap would make the class sooo much more viable
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.
Elementists definitely need some love, especially when warriors and thiefs are doing way more damage in heavy and medium armor… Eles damage needs buffed they hit like a wet noodle. I don’t even worry about eles when I’m playing my other toons in pvp.

Perhaps I do need to learn to dive more or kite better but it still feel like elementist needs more help in PvP. I tried 2x dagger recently and traits in fire and it did seem a bit better.

Their AOEs do deal a significant amount of dmg. Maybe it’s the gear that you are using that’s affecting dmg.
I am engineer class ; engineer is losing to almost all classes…. wtf realy mates. engineer is the worse pvp class ever . you can check my engineer topic from here too :
i’ve played both ele and necro in combat, as well as warrior. have to say i don’t feel underpowered as an ele or necro. in fact, the ele was awesome in wvw. all that aoe…
i think it relies on being positional. trying not to be “in the guardian’s face”. keep with the group and keep back a little. gw2 more than any other game demands you spend a lot of your concentration on knowing where you are as much as where you’re throwing your spells. i’ve also found a LOT of casters haven’t yet realised they can cast while running…
Well I was PvP’ing last night in battlegrounds and I ended up fighting one on one with a warrior in tournment gear (he was, I was in noobie gear) and it was a fair fight and we manage to knock both of ourselves out at the same time.
So perhaps it’s more I needed to learn the class a bit more or it’s the switch from 2h staff to 2xdagger (also I have been going up the fire trait path for more damage)
