Hello all,

I was doing some crafting some exotic armour yesterday and I noticed that one of the component, charged quartz crystal, is relatively harder to gather enough – it has a time limit of ONE A DAY. Than it got me thinking, I like the all roundedness of the celestial set but generally speaking which profession(s) in what build(s) benefits it most?

People talk a lot about the berserker set these days. I have a power ranger that uses berserker; a hybrid mesmer mixed rampager and carrion; and a dire condimancer. But how about the celestial set? I personally do not seem to have come across that often.

My elementalist likes it quite a bit. I wouldn’t put it on any of my other characters though.

I also love the roundedness, tho that from my mmo experience i tend that it tends not to be that great. Would like to try a celestial set on some character as well

I love it on the engineer. I change my build so much, and it is very versatile. The engineer has so many kits that have skills that scale with power, while others scale with condition damage. I find this gear to be ideal for it, in my opinion.

So, only elementalist and engineer benefit the celestial set most.

I have done some simple mathematics using the Build Editor. The celestial set (exotic) only does about 67% average damage and 57% condition damage when comparing to a full berserker (exotic) and a full carrion set (exotic) respectively.

Interesting…

I would say only engineer and elementalist are the only two that can really use them. Both have a wide range of skills/attunements that suit that type of stat.

I gave a celestial set to my engineer, nades scale well from power and cond damage, and since I use my eng for WvW the survival you get from celestial helps a lot.

I have calculated that Celestial Armor provides the easiest way to get an optimal amount of durability for my Engineer during WvW.

I’ve calculated that about 375-550 bonus Vitality and Toughness from all sources is an optimal range. It has to be both- anything outside of that range is not optimal.

This is also good for the Ranger too, because the Engineer and Ranger have the same base health and armor pools at level 80. The curves for other professions appears to be similar to that of the one I calculated for the Engineer, but I have not tested them as thoroughly.

You have to craft it.

I made a set for my Guardian for the lols. It only gets use in FotM level 40+ after my PuG wipes 12 times and I’ve damaged my Berserker and Soldier sets.

It’s very good for Elementalists but if you’re in PvE the answer to all content is Berserker.

I’m planning to get celestial gear for my elementalist when she gets to level 80 because I like the idea of having a character who uses it and because they keep switching attunements eles use all the attributes. Also I want to give her a Triforge amulet and level tailor to 400 anyway so I may as well.

Luckily I already have quite a bit of charged quartz from the Bazaar of the Four Winds when there was an achievement for charging them, and get more occasionally from the quartz node in my home instance. Plus I’m taking so long to level her I’ve got plenty of time to plan ahead.

Beserker is pure damage, which (if you know what you’re doing) is the most efficient way to play PvE. So if your main concern is getting rewards as fast as possible then yes, beserkers is the answer.

But personally I find most bersker/glass cannon builds to be quite boring, I have more fun playing hybrid builds like my condi/crit ranger.

No. It IS the answer to getting thru 90% of the content fastest, however.

There is nothing wrong with not going FULL ZERKER! if you are not pursuing optimal MIN/MAX gameplay. Keep in mind that there will be situations where other players might not appreciate your choice and will express that to you (sad fact). In truth, only Dungeon teams have a valid complaint against that choice (and then it is only REQUIRED for speed runs).

I think Mesmer benefits from Celestial gear the most, beacuse Mesmers are only in the middle tier of base health, so they need vitality investment, and then they need toughness investment, so they do not die immediately, then they need power+prec+ferocity for damage, and a little bit of condition damage is nice beacuse they inflict a lot of bleeding and confusion without even being on a condi build.

I think Elementalist can benefit from it as well, but they are very squishy, and are in the lowest tier of base health, with only 10,805HP base health are level 80, so I feel they need something a bit more specialized, either damage so they can kill the opponent before they get killed, or defence to tank for a little bit.

Obviously other professions can benefit from it, namely the other middle-tier health professions (Ranger and Engineer) and maybe Guardian, but I don’t think it would be worth putting it on something like Warrior or Necromancer, beacuse they have very high defence and health by default, so there is a lot more room to invest into offence.
