As far as I know you need to do the following:
Chak Master Beginner – kill 1
Chak Master Expert – kill 10
Chak Expert – 50ish? I killed the whole room

One thing to note is that if you die you loose all achivo progress. Downed is ok, dying bad

Good luck!

It doesn’t require killing the whole room. I think I had 3 left when I finished it.

You have to kill 40.

Unfortunately, the instance is wonky, so there are a variety of ways you can fail the achievement while thinking you have succeeded:

  • Make sure you get credit for every possible kill. If you’re in a group, tag everything. If you’re not in a group, try not to let stuff ‘bleed out’ but instead go in for the kill.
  • Make sure you go after potentially hidden chak: using AoE near the crystalline wall towards the far end, for example, will sometimes reveal some chak that spawned out of reach of direct damage.
  • Don’t rush the kills, even though it’s tempting to speed up completion.
  • I have heard of people who claimed it failed because they ran too far ahead of the NPCs earlier in the instance, but I was never able to verify that.
  • It might be worth traveling through a different tunnel, e.g. if you did the dark path, try one of the other two.

If you finish successfully, the achievement will pop up. If it doesn’t and you’re absolutely sure there are no more chak to kill, you can restart the instance (you don’t have to follow it through to the end).

Near as I can tell, eventually everyone who keeps trying will get it. The only question is how many times you have to start it up. Worst case for someone I was trying to help was 3 iterations with me, although they might have tried many other times when I wasn’t around. Usually, though, everyone got the achievement the first time through with me — I think mostly because I helped them take their time and not worry about dying.

Good luck.

I just pulled one at a time. Very slow but also very safe.

I found this achievement impossible to complete in a group. Best guess is that nobody can get downed (defeated?), so even if you remain standing for the entire fight if one of your group members goes down it will spoil the achievement for everyone. Also, it appears that all group members need to earn credit for the total number of required kills, so you can also fail if you don’t get enough credit even though your group survived and cleared the entire room!

So, yeah, only way I’ve been able to do it was by myself and without getting downed. It was too difficult to do with friends.

I ran into that problem. 3 people in the instance. We murdered everything without anyone getting down but the achievement didn’t complete. I probably wasn’t able to take all the ones we killed.

I’ve seen it both ways.

I’m convinced (although I can’t prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt) that people weren’t each getting full credit for each kill.

ANet uses some sort of formula for deciding kill credit and it’s not intuitive to me or to anyone I know (since it generates all sorts of discussions). The short of it seems to be that just because you tagged a foe (and maybe even got loot or XP), the game doesn’t always credit you with the kill — that is, ‘death’ and ‘kill’ are not synonymous as one would imagine. (As an aside, this is partly why it’s difficult to progress the off-hand weapon master achievements, although it’s far from the only issue there.)

With three people, it’s very difficult to ensure everyone gets kill credit, even if everyone participates in its death.

What seems to work is killing stuff slowly. If three people want/need credit, I recommend everyone agreeing on making sure that a particular one gets it and let them deal the killing blow whenever possible. That is, A fights all the time, while B & C tag and then hold back, only coming in for emergencies.

Obviously that’s slower progress in the instance and slower progress for getting three people through this achievement. But, I’ve found it works good enough that usually two of the three succeed. (I say ‘usually’ because it’s always been at least two when I’ve been helping, but there are so few examples, because this isn’t something I do every day).

If ANet isn’t going to adjust the mechanics so this isn’t so wonky, I wish that they would at least add a kill counter — this would be hundreds of times easier if each person knew their score and how many more kills they needed.

An even easier fix is to add 20-30 more chak, so we don’t have to keep track.

This achievement doesn’t require skill to complete — it requires luck, patience, and perseverance and that’s a recipe for frustration.

PS another thing that seems to help a lot, even though it shouldn’t, is to come with someone who has succeeded at least once. Sometimes just the presence of someone with the achievement can cause the other party members to play just a tad differently… and just a tad is probably all it takes for folks to get credit.

I’ve had it fail when running too far ahead and killing them before brahm points them out to you.

I cleared this achievement the same way as Aliem. Solo, slow and steady. One or two at a time. Took about 15 mins.
