I am now trying to get the Chalice of Rhendak collectible. I went though the mini dungeon with a level 46 thief, killed Rhendak, got the chest but no chalice.
Logged in the next day, killed Rhendak, got the chest but no chalice.
Logged in the day after that, killed Rhendak, no chest.
Logged in today, killed Rhendak, no chest.

I imagine I can no longer just keep a toon parked there and log in to kill the boss for the chest. I remember way back, maybe a year ago, I could leave an 80 at a world event, for example Claw of Jormag, and just log in every few days, kill it, get the chest.

How do I ‘reset’ this thief now so I actually have a chance to get the chest and possible the chalice?

You’re probably hitting Diminishing Returns. To remove this, that char needs to go to another map and play there a while. Do a few events. One might be enough but the number needed is unknown.

If you want to remain in that mini dungeon you can go to WvW and do some events there. When you leave WvW you will return to your original spot.

There are two issues at play here:

1. The Chalice of Rhendak is not a guaranteed drop. Out of the 20 or so times I’ve killed Rhendak so far, I’ve only gotten it about 4 times, which suggests there’s a 20% chance to get it from his chest.

2. I’ve discovered that if you leave a character parked inside Flame Temple Tombs when you log off, it won’t “reset” the mini-dungeon for you the next time you log in. This means that if you killed Rhendak on Monday, looted his chest, then logged off, log back in on Tuesday and kill Rhendak again, you won’t be eligible for the mini-dungeon end chest, because the game thinks that you haven’t left the mini-dungeon at all.

To get around this, log off your character in WvW or Heart of the Mists. When you re-log back in, you can just exit WvW/HotM and be right back at Rhendak, but the game will think that you’ve left the mini-dungeon and reset properly.

Sorry to be off topic but I have a question if you don’t mind. I know next to nothing about WvW so when you say exit WvW, I’m confused, the only way I know to leave WvW is to use a port so how else do you leave WvW?
