Changes on the Ranger class in the last patch
I support the removal of pet rezzing. It was always getting in my way of rezzing actual players.
Pet swap serves the functionality fine. If you want an RP explaination, your pet just got his …. pushed in and needs a moment to recover. Maybe his feeling are hurt too, and he just doesn’t feel like helping out for a minute or so. Maybe sending in your best buddy to stand in the fire or get cleave gibbed isn’t the nicest thing a pet owner could do and we should be calling PETA on you for trying to force the little guy back into the fray so quickly.
Why? Gives needed gear…
Why do you need this gear? To do dungeons… duh.
I support the OP. it is silly that you cannot res your companion anymore just because “swapping is quicker” why not still give us the choice to EITHER res them manually or swap them out? why was that such an issue to begin with?
I’ve tolerated the “magic arrow” thing from the ranger which ruins immersion a little but now I feel even more detached from my pet… a ranger is SUPPOSED to have a close friend and companion. now we have lost one of the means to interact with them.
I think it should be back. hell if you are afraid of xp farming or something from it simply remove the bonus xp you get when you res them… just let us res our pets again…
you can swap them if you want or you can res them manually why is it so bad to have both?
Time spent resurrecting a dead pet in combat is time better spent dealing damage to mobs while the timer to swap to the other pet comes off cooldown. It takes too long to rez someone while in combat and it takes longer to get out of combat and rez then it does to stay in combat and just swap.

Well any complains about the magic arrows, imho I would mind if they removed them then :P
I support this change. And for the record, I am a level 80 ranger.
I support it for 2 reasons.
First, it got very annoying trying to interact or rez other players with your dead pet getting in the way and hogging all the action. Even looting in packs of mobs during a kill quest would be aggravating if your pet was dead.
Secondly, We are already able to swap out our pets during battle. If you are burning through 2 pets during an encounter something else may be the issue. Try 2 defensive pets such as bears instead of DPS pets like Cats. If you swap your pets out before they die, you can swap them again in a minute or two. Even during boss battles, I have found that reviving a pet does nothing but waste your time that you could be attacking the boss.
Not sure if it bothers me. I never rez’d my pet during combat because it takes too long. Only did that once during Megadestroyer because he was tanking and my pet switch was in cd. Other than that, I usually kite the enemy until the cooldown is off.
It is annoying sometimes you rez someone’s pet by mistake instead of the player who really needed your help during group event’s chaos.
In a rp prespective, it sure makes no sense that you can’t rez him. Personally, rezing him or not, does not affect me very much, but I respect your opinion and it might bother some other players aswell.
So much this problem is that the interact key is undifferentiated.
Let’s us break the functions apart, so that we can spam a loot-all key without getting stuck rezzing some RP-er’s dead pet.
Have so many keys unbound. Let us bind one for rez player that’s separate from revive NPCs and Pets.
This issue is better solved with more choices, not fewer.
Hello everyone,
A pet is like an additional partymember, so I (and I am sure, many other as well) want to be able, to get it back onto it’s feet DURING battle.
You need to be proactive in managing your pet in battle. You shouldn’t be letting it die, and if it is going to, swap it first. When you swap, its only a 20 second CD to swap back and you don’t have the down time of sitting there trying to res your pet for 30 seconds. If you’re pet is dying so much that you need to constantly res it in combat, you need to rethink your play style.
I kinda like your idea, mulch.
Hell, I wouldn’t mind to give players a “I no care about stupid pets” option in the options menu, that disables the option to rez pets for them.
Or, since the priority queue is there anyway, give the pet rez a lower priority.
To the others:
As I said, I definitely understand the decision from a gameplay point of view. But I am not talking about effectiveness here, I am talking about immersion. And as said before, GW2 has so much of it which helps to make it such a great game. Why remove some of it completely?
Edit
Atharyia, I don’t think you understand my point here. I usually don’t need to rez my pet in battle.
What I am on about is, that it is important, from an RP point of view, to be able to do such a thing. I am well aware, that I can switch my pet, before the current one dies. I am also well aware that there are more effective ways to go on during combat. But as said, that is not what I am talking about.

i’ve been at work all night and haven’t played since before last patch. what other ranger changes are there?
As a ranger I support the change also.
They where always in the way trying to rez an actual player.
I have never ressed my pet during battle, and was always amused when random people would do it for me. This was a sensible move.
As a Ranger, I also support this change. I honestly never used the rez on my pet because it takes waaaaay to long. It’s much easier, more convenient and less of a hassle to other players to just swap out your pets.
While I understand your frustrations being an RP player, I am sure that you can use that vast creativity of yours to come up with a viable story as to why you must change out your pets instead of rezzing them. Perhaps the animal needs time to recover before rejoining the fray so he’s traded places with his litter-mate. That’s just one idea. =)
I played all day yesterday and rezzed my pet numerous times??? But maybe I’m doing it after the battle…can’t remember..but def don’t remember having any problems rezzzing.
But from an RP standpoint, why not let it be known that you have 2 pets with all the time…one scouting ahead, one by your side. You could work the change overs into the RP in a lot of ways.

Unfortunately this isn’t an RP game, mechanics should not be altered for RPers at the expense of better game mechanics.
