Hello.

I am posting this here, because it seems posting it to Tech problems got my post locked?!?

In all my MMORPG and such games, I have used mostly my nickname, Deepcuts.
When I linked my GW1 account with GW2 account, the message stated:
“Your display name is a unique account identifier that consists of a name and a randomly generated four-digit code. You’ll use it on the Forums, and in Guild Wars 2 after launch. The name and four-digit code will be your handle on the Forums. The four-digit code does not appear in the game itself unless another player chooses the same name, in which case both your name and the four-digit code will appear.”
As far as I can see, if a user has my nickname already, I can still use it but a four digit code will be added to my in-game name.
Am I missing something? Because the game client tells me I cannot chose the nickname, because it is already being used.

These forum, or account names, are not the same as character names. Character names are unique. So there cannot be a character called Deepcuts.123 and a Deepcuts.245 in the game. There can be another person with that account name (which you can use to send in-game mail), but no duplicated character names.

A bit confusing, but hope that helps.

The 4 digit code only applies to the website and forums, it doesn’t get applied to your in game character name.

As for your character name, you can add spaces to form 2 or more word names. So if “Deepcuts” is taken, give him a last name. The naming rules are:

-Maximum 19 characters long
-Only the first letter after a space is capitalized, so no random caps
-no offensive names
-no copyrighted names
-no special characters, accents are ok.
-no numbers

“Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games.”

Thank you.
The phrase “The four-digit code does not appear in the game itself unless another player chooses the same name” miss lead me it seems.
