I’ve been buying and savaging ectos for a while, this is supposedly the fastest way to max magic find but is there a cheaper way to max it by savaging other items?

Put in bids for ectos, salvage them, sell the dust and eat the EoL.

Buying ectos sounds like one of the most expensive ways to get more luck. Why not just buy greens and blues to salvage? Then you not only get extra crafting mats, but you get luck.

while prices may change, general profitability usually doesnt. ectos have high demand and huge volume and are the easiest and most obvious large source of luck, so it costs money to get luck thru ectos.

greens and blues are low volume, high maintenance, and kind of annoying to salvage a lot of… so there is typically profit in those markets, especially when the markets arent high demand because of some other aspect (ie, linen).

it looks like that still applies, at a glance.

Ecto buy orders are 31.21s. Crystalline Dust sell orders are 18.36s. According to those that track these things, you will got ON AVERAGE, 1.84 dust per ecto. Master Salvage is 61.44c per.

Assume your buy orders are 1% higher in price and sell orders 1% lower. Don’t forget the 15% tax on the TP.

300 Luck needs 4,295,450 EoL

31.21 × 1.01 – ( 1.84 × 18.36 × 0.99 x 0.85 ) + 0.6144 ~ 3.71s per 104 EoL.

That’s 1532g, over 41K ectos for 0 to 300.

You only get 11 EoL on average from blues, 30 from greens. That means you would have to have an end cost, after selling off the mats, of under 33c for blues and under 89c for greens to be cheaper, ignoring the cost of the salvage kit per use. The maths are a bit harder since the type and amount of mats vary with the item being salvaged. Most minor runes and sigils are around vendor / 0.85 prices so don’t expect them to make up the cost for using a better salvage kit beyond basic on greens.

Then there’s the question of buying 390K blues or 107K greens.

Don’t go quickly is my advice. Only see whinges of people on forums that want to increase max, benefits don’t seem to be huge.

Run Silverwastes. LOTS of blues and greens and rares available. Salvage everything, and dropped ectos from rares, and you’ll get to 300% in no time. Plus to save your mouse and fingers, be sure to consolidate them using Artificer.

However it would be nice to either have a 500 luck recipe for Artificer, or be able to throw in 10 blues, 2 greens, 1 yellow, and 1 orange into the MF to create 500 EoL. It would certainly help with all the clicking…just sayin….

This is true. However for those without tons of gold to spend just on getting MF, this is a great alternative. You get lots of stuff to salvage, some coin, and a decent amount of MF along the way.

indeed, i recommend at least 100g in buy orders to turn on that faucet

Don’t go all the way to 300, I would stop at 285-290. That way you can still use the luck you get from salvaging.
