Hello there guys!
I bought gw2 and i really can’t decide what profession should i go for. In the previous MMOPRG-games i always played as healer, but since in this game there is no pure roles im asking is there any professions which is good at healing. Also asking about class balance, how good it is atm in pvp/pve?

Thanks!

The only REAL healer is a water elementalist; maybe a guardian. I cant answer to guardian but i play Ele. However i feel they are stupidly underpowered in some ways and leave much to be desired. Dont even think about SPvP (structured) because it forces the use of a staff which in my opinion is the worst weapon for an elementalist (i prefer Scpeter/Dagger or Dagger/Dagger)

i have +68% movespeed and people easily catch me which is wrong.

What did you like about healing ? I ask because I liked healing too, and what drew you to it might help give a better idea of what you’d like in this game.

What I’ve found is that you’re better off looking for “support” than direct healing. If you like healing because you like helping people, there are plenty of support options. And, really, it seems like almost every class will be able to be built in that direction if you choose !

Guardian seems to have many support / heal skills. It’s not really healing where you directly target someone, but I’ve noticed the skills are team-focused as the profession name would certainly imply.

Engineers have a healing turret and a med-pac gun.

Since there’s no “real” healing (just attempts to push a class as far as possible in that direction) – I would find a class you enjoy playing and go from there, you’ll almost certainly find skills to your liking that fit your playstyle.

In other MMOs I usually go for ranged DPS, but I’ve grown to like my dual-dagger necro (which I actually chose because I though I could go range DPS with). Luckily most classes have a lot of variety in them and you have 5 character slots so nothing wrong with playing around a bit. But like other posted state you can try elemental or guardian, if you don’t like the play style go through the weapon combinations or try something new. Eventually you’ll find something you like.

Playing a guardian i will tell you we do have some healing capability. But its mostly in the form of our 7-9 skills and a tier2 elite spell. I think we get 1 heal from our weapon. Only nice thing about the weapon is ranged. But then again you could just go scepter shield for ranged support.

Water elementalists decked out in +healing gear can make a fine healer. The biggest issue i’ve faced was that i take forever to solo kill mobs so it’ll help if you have a regular group of friends to party with.

Elementalists and Guardians come closest to the support role we commonly know in other mmo. Between these 2, Ele are like priests and Guard are like paladins. But keep in minds that you can only build them support at higher level like over 40+.

As other people said, guardian is a good support healer. When I started playing I wanted to be a support healer, and going scepter (or mace)/shield + 2hstaff seemed to be doing ok. Especially if you take the 30skill point Tome.

A big hint, do not do Cooking and Huntsman, not so Huntsman friendly as you will need metal bars for items, and with the Trading Post and Mail being so sporadic its difficult to get or send from an alt at the moment.

You might want to think about which race you want to play as some race/class set ups can be a little redundent in terms of skills you will have advaliable to you. Like for example a Charr Engineer you got gun skills and now more guns skills. But if you like guns then go for it and have fun.
