Circle Strafing
I use a combination of a movement key, (WASD or whatever set of keys you use) and guiding with the mouse. You simultaneously hold down the mouse left click and a key that you use to strafe.
So, for example, use A to strafe left and while holding down the mouse left click, guide your character in a circle.
May I suggest you watch the video. It’s about movement in Guild Wars 2

He recommends spending a few minutes circling this way around a fixed object and I think that’s a good way to start out.

Keep in mind that while this is somewhat effective in GW2, many projectiles track and many melee attacks are area of effect based, so movement without proper dodging is less than ideal.
Yes, you need to keep moving (kiting, strafing), but proper dodges & blocks are where true damage mitigation happens in GW2.

I play oddly.
I use WASD and Up, down, left right, along with Q and E for strafing.
If I’m using skills that dont need an implicit target (green circle), I move with Up, down, left right.
if I use a skill that needs a target or need to alter my camera (green circle), I -switch my movement to WASD while I aim with the mouse. -
Not for everyone.

I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Lol. I remember back before this game came out, explaining to guidies in Guild Wars 1 about how you run around in a circle while using skills.
“Look! You run around like this!” (Runs in a circle). Guildie: “Oohhhh”
Now, when I try to play Guild Wars 1, it’s so hard to stand in one place while fighting. I keep breaking my skill’s casting to move.
A related topic … I’m still on the fence for something like an orbweaver. CIrcle strafing for me is no possible with a keyboard/mouse layout. If the thumb joystick on the orbweaver can be programmed for cursor targetting, I’m home free.
Can anyone confirm is that’s the case?
I’m left-handed, so I bound all the skill keys to the number pad and I use my thumb on the arrow keys for movement in combat. My left hand stays on the mouse and I use that to turn the camera and determine what direction I’m moving in.
I have to admit I often don’t bother to move much, if it’s an easy fight. But if I need to I can keep moving (mainly circle kiting) throughout an entire fight without losing sight of my target.

It’s extremely effective against the right enemies(most spiders are not the right enemy). On the other hand it can be a lot more tiring to play this way.

I use an orbweaver for my left hand. The joystick has 8 positions that can be programmed so, if what you need can be keybound, then it will work on the orbweaver joystick.

I use a G13 Logitech (similar), but I’m unsure what you mean by “cursor targeting”. I do know the G13 only has 4 programmable positions on the thumb stick, but it does activate 2 adjacent key presses at the same time (if the stick is moved diagonally).

OK, that answers my question … so no, the thumbstick won’t move my cursor for ground targetting. I could be programmed for movement though.
Ahh, I just now figured out what you meant about the cursor. No, you can’t program that to the orbweaver or any minikeyboard device as far as I know.
