Ok I seriously can’t choose a class. I am choosing for a few days now and I am seriously stuck.
Here are all the things I like:
I like Necromancers but I am not into mage classes.
I like the scythe weapon so I would like the class to be able to hold a scythe.
I want it to be able to have these weapons or most of these: Greatsword, Staff and Sword.
I don’t want the skills to be mostly defensive. I don’t like standing their like a paladin casting defensive skills I like beating people’s faces of
I was thinking about choosing the Guardian class but the question is can I turn the Guardian class around and make it more into a character that kills than/then defends?
I would like it to be able to have a pet system. Is this only available on ranger? or…
I would also like the class to not be like a mage standing far away casting skills. I want to hit someone with a Sword or Greatsword.

PS: I also like the Guardians armor XD

When the question is “Class?” the answer is always “Warrior.”

Always.

But will a warrior provide all the things I mentioned?

yes, guardians can focus on offense. they do great damage with sword and greatsword. they can also summon spirit weapon pets

The spirit weapon pets do they have a time limit?
and I might choose a Guardian than/then I wanted a Guardian to be able to kill people xD Thank you for the reply that answered my questions.

I would take a closer look at this page. Not all so called “magic” classes are standing in the back with a staff. Some of the classes actually need some skills unless you plan on auto attacking. Keep in mind that with every class that uses or can use a staff you end up in the back. I’ve never seen any class using a staff standing front line. Some Guardians do it from time to time but that never ends in a good way.

However when it comes to the so called Scythe weapon that doesn’t even exist in GW2. Sure the Necro animation when holding a staff looks like it, there are also weapon skins that look like it, but the actual Scythe as a weapon (skills, mechanics or as we know it from other games/movies etc.) are none existing in this game. Anyways the weapon skin you can use on any class that’s able to use the weapon it was made for. read the description before buying one of the skins or transmuting an item.

Guardians can as mentioned above be offensive but you have to know how to play the game to make this work. A new player trying to roll a offensive guardian mostly ends up dead at any corner. However it would be a class that can use all of those weapons. I would recommend that you try the Guardian and get used to the class. Look at different builds but keep in mind that most of them are made for fully maxed out characters. Take a look at the gear itself, I find a lot of new players showing me builds all day long at 80, yet the build itself was made for exotic/ascended gear and not rare or greens that they are actually wearing lol.

Warrior is one of the easiest classes to play and the new trend since last update. You won’t be able to use the staff nor will you have a pet system but you could park your character somewhere afk and wont die. I wouldn’t recommend it but if that’s your style then go ahead.

As of right now, there are no Scythe’s in game. There are 2 weapons that look like Scythe’s but are staves.

If you want an actual Scythe, your best bet is to roll a Warrior or a Necromancer and hope Anet adds it in.

Guardian is said to have some of the highest DPS in the game with Sword/Focus. Solo it might kill a little bit slower but in a group it shines. Some defensive skills will always be wanted on Guardian, like Hold the Line (gives protection and regeneration) or Wall of Reflection. You can spec your traits, weapons, and armor all offensively though and do good damage

I would like it to be able to have a pet system. Is this only available on ranger?

Yes, Rangers are the only profession that have commandable pets. However, every character has the ability to summon something. The Necro can be built as a MM (minion master), and you can have a swarm of creatures.

See link for list of summons:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Summon

Warrior and Guardian are the only two heavy armor classes, so if you like that look start there. I have a warrior and my hubby has a Guardian. He can lay down the damage and take the hits just as well as I can.

One of the cool things about this game is that you can range and melee, you don’t have to choose. Start off ranged, apply crippil, freeze, and other conditions. Then swap over to melee and finish the job.

Given your preferences above, I would suggest looking into Elementalist, Necro, or Ranger.

Elementalist: holds staff but I rarely use it unless in large groups, can conjure greatsword. I use double daggers with a concentration on fire, condition damage and duration, and toughness/vitality. Talk about some fun hand to hand combat! Lots of moving and dodging.

Necro: holds staff, the staff gets the scythe looks in the hands of a necro, can summon lots of minions, can survive hand to hand combat with a little skill. I play this by using staff to inflict a lot of conditions, go into death shroud and use dark path to teleport to the enemy, then switch to my melee weapons and finish them off.

Ranger: Rangers get a bad reputation around here, but this class can provide group support and be very fun and effective when played properly. No staff, but can do some awesome stuff with a longbow – axe/warhorn combo. Can use sword and greatsword. Has pets that you can command, and traits that help with pets.

Only ranger has a permanent pet
Necros can have minions though. Also, there is no scythe in this game. There is a necro staff skill that makes your staff look like a scythe while casting. And there is a super expensive scythe skin for staff available to buy.
Warriors can stand in the fray and beat on things all they like. They can use swords and greatswords.
Guardians are more defensive, but can still stand toe-to-toe with an enemy.
Only mesmers and guardians can use greatswords, swords, and staves.

Warrior and Guardian meets most of the criteria you listed, except for pets and scythe.

-Rangers are the only class with a full fledged pet, other classes can summon NPC minions like Necro undead or Engi steam turrets.
-Scythes are not usable as a weapon in this game, only as a gathering tool.

  • Ok… Mesmers, guardians, necromancers and elementalists use magic as their primary way of combat, i think. However, your definition of “mage” is standing far away and cast spells while youre safe. every profession (=class) has both close and far range weapons, even warriors can go ranged, even elementalists and necros can go close.
  • there is unfortanetely no scythe weapon, but necromancers automatically turn their staff in a scythe with their skill effects. Theres also 1 or 2 staves that look klikr a scythe. Mesmers guardians necros and elementalists can all use them.
  • guardian is known for their support, but they can spec damage just as well.
  • all professions have some sort of defense. Some professions use defense while standing still, some use burst healing and some use evasion and mobility.
  • guardian has spirit weapons, but apart from the shield, theyre not that usefull :/.
  • all professions have both close and far away specs, so that doesnt really limit your option.
  • try going greatsword or sword on guardian to do high damage.

Guardian seems like a solid joice for “being up close and personal and beat their faces in while attacking and not casting defensive skills from a safe distance while a shield of the avenger has your back” :0

You should also try Mesmer :D
You have:

  • high brurst damage specs (in pvp you can down someone in like 0.7 seconds)
  • high sustained damage specs with #2 best damage out of all professione (first being thief)
  • build diversity. Even after a year, completely new and fun builds are being made.
  • one of our high damage traits is in the support line, so you can do massive damage and support your friends at the same time
  • clones and phantasms, so youll never have to feel lonely :D
  • faboulous looking skills, that leave people wondering what theyre actually doing (and meanwhile you get an evil grin on your face, knowing you save their life).
  • light armor, which is in my oppinion the most varied and fun.
  • an Official Mesmer Forum Guild, where you can hang out and ask for help anytime in game ^__^.

Feel free to whisper me in game or PM me here if you need anything, and I really mean anything (like fashion advice, or talk about cats) :D
