Class decision
Why not play them all? They all contribute different things in different situations. The Thief is likely the best for PvP/WvW, but may struggle in PvE. The Mesmer is extremely good in both game modes (some even say they are overpowered in PvP/WvW). Finally, the Engineer is only average at everything, but fun to play.
- If you want dungeons, you will most likely be accepted into groups on zerk Mesmer.
- If you want to PvE/WvW, both Thief and Mesmer are good choices.
- For general PvE and map completion, the Engineer is probably superior to both, as both the Thief and Mesmer are designed for burst damage, and most fights in PvE (when not zerging) are attrition fights requiring sustain.

yes, as the Hannelore said, you dont need any main character/class. For example, I have 12 characters(full lvl+gear) and dont have main too. It only depends what are you going to play/do in game. When i go to dungeon AC, I just take warrior, when i go to TA I take guardian, gather orrichalcum → thief, sPvP → mesmer, and etc. Just choose character what is easier to play for you and have good build for it.. And if you are deciding where to spend more money(I mean character) just choose what character you play the most..

Which one do you like the best? Thats the only way to really answer the question.
Each one brings something else to the table, and can be used effectively for different situations. There is no one class that is good at everything. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. It just depends on how you want to play, and what you want to accomplish.

You did say you liked them a lot and you aren’t sure which to main, so…
Don’t main any of them.
Level each of them at whatever pace you want, switch between them, or do one at a time.
Then at 80, decide what you like best. PvE, PvP, WvE, etc.
After deciding what you like to do best, decide which character you enjoy doing that particular activity with the most.
I personally recommend the Thief, as that was my favorite class.
I recently rerolled and am playing a Guardian now, which is also extremely fun… But I still have that place in my heart that only Thief can hold.
