Ok, so I just got GW2 about a week or so ago and while trying to read up on tips and hints I came across a “combat mod” that apparently adds a crosshair and lets you look/turn with just the mouse. My question is it this mod ok to use, or is it bannable? I am enjoying this game and would rather not be banned before I even sunk much time into it :p Sorry if this question was asked before, I tried to do a search but couldn’t find anything.

Most online games discourage the use of any sort of in-game modification that is not first sanctioned by the admins or game masters. That is to say, changing the user interface VIA mod, adding in certain elements that could give you an unfair advantage VIA mod and so on. ‘Modding’ in the gaming community is typically seen as cheating, some people also like to call it ‘hacking’. In some games, it’s even prohibited to such an extent that it is illegal. I would advise against it, and if you see any videos of people using mods, you may want to contact a moderator or game master, and ask them why or how it got into the game, and what they can do to fix it- as a result, helping the rest of the community to continue enjoying a fun, safe, and fair environment.

ArenaNet has stated that no mods are acceptable, not even cosmetic ones. Don’t do it.

You can simulate the crosshair by getting yourself targeted (if grouped).

These guys are both incorrect. What they have stated is that they will neither ban nor officially allow specific programs, and instead treat each as a case by case basis.

I use this mod myself, the devs know I and other player use it because there was a giant thread on it only a month or two ago, and nobody was or has been banned for it because it does not ‘provide an advantage’ and does not ‘alter the games code’ So apparently, even on a case by case basis, it has not yet been found to be against the rules. And by the way, it’s awesome, I really recommend it.
