Commanders - 2 things to bear in mind
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I agree on this.
First off all a commandertag doesnt indicate a good player. it is just someone who gathered and spent 100 gold. It is basicly nothing more then painting a text on your head saying: I had 100 gold.
Some commanders are very good. specially in WvW there are good ones doing their jobs very well.
But lets take a general Scarlets invasion (as it goes on my server).
90% off the people that turn up wants to farm and follow a commander (perfectly ok if you want to farm championbags). bout 10% spent there time shouting and flaming in chat how bad the commanders are cause they actually want to finish the event.
This really happened numerous times. I am a farmer, and normally join the commander zerg, but to proof a point I have asked the people that wanted to finish the event (kill scarlet) to join me. We only had like 10 people, but we did the opposite off the commander and did many off the small scale events. We didn’t wasted time to flame in chat but we concentrated on getting as many events done. The result was that we did 50% off all the scarlet invasion event bar. The other 50% was done by the zerg, and we had 5 minutes left to kill scarlet.
So yes!!! dont follow the commander if you dont like what he is doing. follow your own goals. dont waste time complaining but change the world!!
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
If you’re actually just playing solo and don’t want people following you around, turn it off don’t leave it up and keep yelling at them to go away.
Has this actually happened? o_o

Only twice that I’ve seen. The second time was today in Kessex Hills, there was a commander down the bottom of the map doing hearts and the normal DE’s but people kept assuming he was doing LS stuff or farming champions and coming to follow him. Instead of turning the tag off he started announcing in /map that people should ignore him.
The first one is far more common, but since they’re kind of related issues I thought I’d post both together.

For me atlest, I just like to leave my tag on. I enjoy helping people so I dont mind having a big blue marker on me and I invite anyone to ask for help! Ill try my best to answer you

One commander I had the misfortune of talking with admitted that s/he/it leaves it on at all times because they like the attention. I doubt therefore that your 2) will ever happen, Danikat.8537.
On the other hand, whenever a new player asks where landmarks are in Lion’s Arch, one can invariably just point them to the closest dorito.

they are probably trolling.
