So I’m about to do a condition build for a mesmer and i’m wondering why precision and condition damage are always together on armor.

1- How does precision affect condition damage?.
2- What would be best for armor, Carrion, Knight’s, Rampager or a mix. say 2 of each one for example.

Anything else i should know that would shed light on condition based mesmers.

Precision does not affect condition damage. Precision increases the chance of a critical hit(conditions cant crit).
Go to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Condition_damage for information about how condition damage is calculated.

As far as armor it varies depending on what kind of build you are running.

For condition based Mesmers I would recommend checking the Mesmer forum section might find some helpful information.

1. It does not. However, there are traits that do trigger conditions on critical hits, and precision raises your critical hit chance.
2. I am not fond of mix and matching on the armor when it comes to condition builds. If your new to this game, I’d say start with rabid or dire, so you’ll have enough toughness to survive a few mistakes. However, when you’ll feel confident enough, start dropping pieces for rampager or carrion. Knight doesn’t have any condition damage on it, so I wouldn’t go for that.

I have absolutely no knowledge on condition mesmers so I’ll leave that part to someone else.

Like Sacrai said, precision help for condition on crits. That help for some build that use a lot of condition on crits like Grenade Engineer. Your mesmer will have a lot of condition on crits so Precision will be important for your build. The best gear for that kind of condition is Rabid (Condition Damage, Precision, Toughness). Carrion and Rampager are not better gear for condition (wrong information on that Sacrai). Carrion is better if you don’t really do condition on crits (like a Condition Ele or some Necromancer build). For Rampager, its a bit more difficult to answer. Ya it have 3 offensives stats, but condition is not your main and you will have less of that with Ramapger. Some build are better with rampager, but its about min/maxing with a particular build. No general rule here for rampager, so you are better with Rabid (safer choice). But watch out, condition in general is not that good in PvE and Mesmer condition even less. Because you will mainly giving confusion and PvE mobs don’t attack really fast, so your DPS will be bad. Condition Mesmer is for PvP (WvW and sPvP).

I agree with Thaddeus, what I said is plain wrong now that I think about it. Looking again at the stats combination page on the wiki, it seems like rabid is you only option if your want the highest condition damage and a decent critical chance.

Conditions do not stack beyond a certain limit. For this reason getting more damage per condition is more important than triggering a condition more often. For this reason Rampager is a bit problematic because its main stat is Precision.

Most condition builds run Rabid if they have condition-on-crit traits, and Dire if they do not. Carrion/Rampager mixes are used for hybrid builds, not condition builds.

Unfortunately the way the numbers are set, hybrid builds don’t really do very well a lot of the time.
