As many who have seen me post probably know I’m a noob and proud self-proclaimed casual player. I’m not starting this thread to start that debate so please don’t go there. I just thought it would be a nice, more friendly thread to share your own noob stories. It would be nice to refrain from calling out other player’s noob actions.

First thing I found out was that GW2 thief does not = Ultima Online thief. When I get a new game I almost never read instructions or tutorials as I like to find things out myself. So I rolled my first toon, a thief and jumped in the game and what do I see? This cool F1 skill called “steal”. So what was the first thing I did? I started running up to NPCs mashing the F1 key. Needless to say I was briefly confused when nothing happened and thought to myself, “Well that skill is worthless.” LOL

My other mistake was throwing out a ton of mats. My 2 little bags kept getting filled up so I would just toss them if I needed the slot for something else. I didn’t know you could send them all to your bank with one click. Also I thought at such a low level I would not be able to access crafting for awhile anyway. So I tossed them.

When I completed a heart and went to see the heart vendor I thought I was obligated to spend the karma on something. I thought it was like a one time reward where you got to choose what you wanted from the list but after that it was gone.

Let’s see… I’m not really into WvW or PvP but I was eager to see how it looked and jumped my at that point level 10 in because I had read that WvW was available for all levels and everyone is up-leveled to 80. After I finally figured out how to get around and got a general idea of where I was suppose to go I figured out that WvW is not the best place for low levels. Actually I found out about 2 seconds after seeing my first enemy Haha.

Mostly I thought the thief story was pretty funny and I’m willing to wager I wasn’t the only one that thought that was how it worked, especially for people that played Ultima Online many moons ago like myself.

So if you feel like taking a break from the constant debating, which I admit I take part in a lot myself, share one of your funny stories from your ‘noob’ days.

Okay hate to say this but..Been playing the game actively all Winter through Spring. Have a couple 80s, deleted another 80 to change servers on the cheap basically been playing alot. Learning I did the mat toss thing also, corrected that.

Always hated the underwater parts though, seemed weak there but fought through.

And just NOW, right now, umm, realized I could assign utilites and an elite skill to the empty underwater skillbar. So yea, that bar only held the default heal skill for months though many characters.

Funny story?

Spending real money to buy gems, then trade the gems for gold and buy the WRONG armour for WvW xD

Is that funny?

I didn’t bother to look it up or pay attention and I bought a mini-pack thinking minis were pets that helped in combat.

In the end I wasn’t too happy about spending the money on something worthless. But due to lack of attention and research I’ve purchased a lot of things in real life that were worthless as well so I chalked it up to lesson learned.

Well as you did I also found out the one-click-send-to-bank button after selling a lot of crafting items :P
Also experienced the empty underwater skillbar being empty untill you one day realize that you have to assign them there aswell…

And one of my proudest noob adventures was buying another manual (which I already had) because I thought that was the only way to reset traits….instead of just choosing the other option when you talk to the person. Thank god it was only a few silver

..these days I try to read things carefully, saves you from a lot of bad things Not only while gaming, but also in life and stuff…

Yeah I got myself again today. I finally decided I am going to play long enough to get a few perks. I paid cash for some gems to get one of those armor skin sets. Of course I just purchased the one I thought was coolest. Well that happens to be for light armor and my toon wears medium. HAHA At least it isn’t soul bound so I can put in my bank if I roll a light armor toon.
