I remembered a long time ago i am able to use my Copper-Fed Salvage O Matic to salvage any items as long as they are above green. however now i noticed that there are some items that are non-salvageable. why is this?

the only way to tell if a item is salvage able is to try the copper-fed on it, i’ve had some Yellow rank items but they ended up being unsalvage able so i had to press the destroyed button, anyone can tell me whats going on here?

Items purchased with Karma or Badges are not salvageable. Could that be the case?

There is also some weird item that you need to double click on them to make a choice. Don’t really remember what choice is what maybe stats, there we all green weapons so I didn’t take a good look.

You cannot salvage the following items (for the most part):

• Items you obtain from an NPC for any currency other than gold (to prevent easy conversion of other currencies to gold).
• Starter items and some story mission reward items.

The first item is a major concern to many players AFTER the wardrobe change. It basically means any upgrades (RUNES / SIGILS) added to items purchased with Karma or WvW Badges can only be retrieved with a quite expensive gem store item. Prior to the Wardrobe system, you could transmute the runes onto another item but now they are pretty much stuck there.

Moral: be aware that placing runes or sigils on non gold purchased gear is likely a permanent decision.

You can throw then into the forge and hope for something half decent. Or something bad that you can at least salvage.

Ohh .. too late now .. all my character are 80 meanwhile

But you also get only 3 and aren’t they character bound, so you can’t even collect
them from more than 1 characters.

If it was a Rare (yellow) rank item, chances are that this was either gear bought with Karma/Badges.

Items that require you to select stats on it first are salvageable after you gave them a stat set for as far as I’ve experienced with Carapace pieces for example.

Another side note: All that Cultural gear (which is gold-bought) isn’t salvageable as well.

The best bet to use rares that you can’t salvage in any way would be to Mystic Forge them as said before.

No need to select stats to salvage. You can just salvage them as is.

I’ve salvaged exotic weapons and armor after use. You might be trying to salvage exotics bought with karma or WvW badges. Neither of those are ever salvageable.

It turns out they are reward items….my bad.

I have much less of an issue with the items not being salvageable than with there being NO WAY to simply look at the item (or even it’s description) and SEE it’s un-salvageable.

I KNOW this has been suggested to Anet MANY MANY times.
