Crafting Questions
1) Yes, but only specific things are worth it, not everything. You can craft ascended armor/weapons. The only other way to get them is by drop so crafting is more reliable. There is a lot of stuff all over the place that can cost you less if you craft it. You can also make money off crafting if you know what to do. It give you a good amount of experience. Think of it as a way to transform gold into experience. Good for people with a moderate amount of gold and several alts that they want to get to higher level. You also need crafting for legendary or unique skin. Leveling your crafting profession give you achievement.
2)
- Weaponsmith, Huntsman or Artificer for Ascended weapons.
- Armorsmith, Leatherworker or Tailor for Ascended armor.
- Cooking, Artificer and Jeweler for cheapest leveling
- Artificer have some nice crafting thing like merging Lucks and crafting AR for fractal.
- To make gold they can all be good, but you need to know what you are doing.
3) Not really. It really depend on what you want to do. For exemple, if you have only light armor profession, armorsmith and leatherworker will probably not be useful. If you don’t want to level up character with crafting, jeweler is probably useless for you.
4) Yes they are account bound. You can move them around different character if they can use it. Meaning you can transfer armor from a Elementalist to an Engineer because they don’t wear the same type of armor. You can also change the stats of your ascended with a little mystic forge recipe, but only for armor/weapons.
I am new to the game and been playing about a month and haven’t really tried the crafting stuff mainly because I wasn’t sure if it was worth doing since past games I have played it was cheaper to just buy things especially for a game that has been out as long as GW2 has been.
1. Is crafting worthwhile and if so why?
2. What crafting professions would you suggest are worth doing?
3. What crafting professions would you suggest not doing?
4. I have tried to read stuff about crafting and hear about ascended gear/weapons which seem to be the best you can get but have to craft it. Are these items account bound and so you can’t buy them on the market? If so, can you use them on different characters on the same account?
Thanks for any help.
1. Crafting is as “worthwhile” as you want it to be, though it’s hard to determine what “worthwhile” means to you. It can get you gold. It can get you shinies. It can get you experience. But I have no idea if any of that is what you consider “worthwhile”.
2. Whatever floats your boat. I mean, I don’t even know what class you are, so it’s hard to tell you which crafting disciplines would be effective. (Actually, I don’t even need to, because there’s already ample information on that particular subject elsewhere, including which professions make what.)
3. See previous, except avoid whatever does NOT float said boat.
(Need more information, please. What are you? What do you want? What do you prefer to play – PvE, PvP, WvW, ERP, what? Without this information all you’re going to get is a pile of generalized info that’s just going to be rehashed from the wiki.)
Thanks for the replies. Sorry some of the terms I am not familiar with yet like ERP for example.
As far as class I am not sure yet. I honestly planned on trying them all to see what I like. I have currently only done the PvE, but do want to PvP/WvW or at least try it to see if I enjoy it. All I have really done so far is PvE with a guardian, warrior, hunter and elementalist, but do plan on trying other professions as well. That is why I was wondering about the account bound issue or if you could just buy them from the merchant. I just discovered these boards so have been looking over stuff.

You’re going to first want to settle on a class, as some professions just don’t make anything useful for EVERY class. Huntsman/Leatherworker tends to favor Rangers, while Artificing tends to favor magic-users, etc.
So, first things first: Settle on a class. Then it’d be a lot easier to figure out what job he should have. -Sid
Ah well I had seen a few places where people said you want to craft as you level because it levels your character also and so figured I should do that. My plan is to level weaponsmith on my warrior because I figured I would be playing either a warrior/guardian/ or revenant as one of my toons and this would work for all of them.
ERP I believe is Erotic Role Playing.
