Crafting Woes: Cavalier's Inscription

I am trying to learn the Cavalier’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscription recipe, in order to craft and modify exotic and ascended weapons. I am having no luck finding the recipe after doing the following (some of which may have been a waste of time):

1) I bought exotic Cavalier’s weapons from the TP and salvaged them with Black Lion Salvage Kits (I have loads of these … somehow). I gave up after 26 attempts and zero inscription recipes.

2) I bought the inscription from the TP and used it to discover a longbow recipe. This did not give me the recipe for the inscription, however.

3) I spent 21 000 karma and bought the Angu’s Ascended Inscription recipe from one of the crafting vendors. This recipe still requires the exotic inscription.

At this point I started getting a bit “hot under the collar” as we say. The wiki says that you need to salvage exotic weapons for the inscription recipe. I did that with no success. And so I am looking for help and advice.

The inscription recipe is known to players and made and sold on the TP, so the recipe must be available. And yet I cannot seem to learn it.

Thanks in advance for helpful discussion.

It can’t be learned. Your options are:

  • Buy it from the TP at ~2g
  • Keep attempting to salvage Cavalier-stat weapons.

0 successes out of 26 attempts sounds odd to me — the odds aren’t 100%, but they aren’t that low either. In your shoes, I’d file a support ticket asking if that’s consistent with expectations.

But I wouldn’t wait to hear back; I’d just buy off the TP. If you do manage to salvage some later, you can sell them to recoup some/all of your costs.

No, the wiki does not say you need to salvage weapons for the recipe. Exotic cavalier inscription can not be crafted and there is no such recipe. You salvage for the inscription itself. You then use the salvaged exotic inscription to craft the ascended version.

I’m a little curious as to what you were salvaging, the exact items I mean. I have a decent stack of these inscriptions lying around even with casual salvaging from loot I get from events/fractals.

There’s no way to learn the recipe for the inscription itself, but you do have to learn the recipe to craft the individual items be it through discovery or buying the recipe from a vendor.

When you’re salvaging items for the Inscription, make sure that you’re not salvaging a crafted weapon, but instead a dropped weapon. If you’re buying level 80 “Cavalier’s Pearl Greatsword”, for example, that’s a crafted weapon. It cannot be salvaged into an Insignia. If it could, people would just endlessly craft it and salvage it to get the most expensive part back to progress their crafting XP.

Cavalier is one of the stat types associated with Fractals, it might very well be that you can only get salvageable weapons with that inscription from playing that (as Fractal-specific exotics are account bound). In which case, your only alternative is to buy them on the Trading Post. Other stat types like Dire and Shaman’s can be found on drops in the normal world, meaning you can find non-crafted versions on the Trading Post to buy and salvage.
