Level 12 elementalist here, and I figure I’d try crafting….tailoring and artificing. I’ve crafted some in EQ before, pretty straightforward.

I can’t figure out GWs system for the life of me. People have given me links in game (thanks Legion Of Honor!) to different websites on crafting, so I went to them and did some research. Also a kind player went to the crafting station I was at after I did a /yell (map?) and tried to help me figure it out.

But honestly, none of it makes sense to me. The discover window does nothing, I tried a salvage kit, it changed a few items but still they wouldn’t even go in the discovery window.

Is the system really this convoluted, or am I just a dumba@@?

ok, lets take tailoring as an example.
when you start you can create some basic items, and refine jute (under the refinement list). refining mats usually takes you up a few levels, at least enough to create jute insignias. once you’ve unlocked insignias you can start discovering recipes, which will then be listed in the things you can create.

discovery works like this: if you create Jute Breeches Lining, Jute Breeches Panel, and a Malign Jute Insignia, you can then go into the discovery panel and put the items in there (one in each square). clicking create will unlock or discover the Malign Embroidered Pants. this kind of thing goes for everything. so create the individual components and then put them in the discovery panel to unlock them.

I hope that was at least fairly clear

It would also be a really good idea to check out the Tailor page on the official wiki, it states alot of the recipes and will help you find out how the recipes work. They are actually all done pretty systematically.

So is refining just using the salvage kit? I thing I made a leather square or jute square or something. But the only things that will go into the discover window are bone chips and dust

Salvage kits create the raw materials, which you then refine into the actual stuff used in crafting. Once you refine them you can use them in the discovery panel

How do you refine? Aside from the salvage kits, then the tailoring window, I must be missing something

no, refining is done on the crafting station, it should be on the list of things you can create, I’d take a screenie to show you, but I’m not in game.

maybe make a step-by-step mini-guide? would pictures be easier to follow? would it help you more do you think? if it will I’ll get to doing that

In the tailoring window there is a list of types of things you can craft, and one of them is labeled refinement.

80 Guardian. 80 Warrior. 80 Thief. 80 Engineer. 80 Necromancer. 80 Ranger.

You won’t be able to use the Discover window productively until you make some components.

Take tailoring for example. Here’s what you do to make your first piece:

  1. First, talk to the Tailor vendor and buy 1 set of 10x Spool of Jute Thread
  2. Then open the crafting menu
  3. Go to the second tab in your crafting menu (the one under Discovery)
  4. Just right of those tabs, scroll down to Refinement
  5. Refine all of your jute scraps into bolts of jute
  6. Refine all of your leather scraps into leather squares
  7. Now make 1 Jute Wristguard Padding,1 Jute Wristguard Strap, and 1 (Mighty, Malign, or Vital) Jute Insignia. If you don’t have enough fine crafting materials, either buy them from BLTC or buy the finished insignia from BLTC.
  8. NOW go to Discovery and click on the Jute Wristguard Padding, Jute Wristguard Strap, and () Jute Insignia.

… Pretty much everything in Artificing and Tailoring is made this way (other than potions). Also, the vendors at crafting stations sell crafting materials you need such as thread, special ore chunks, and water (for potions), so if it looks like you can’t make anything, you might need more vendor supplies.

Hope this helps get you off the ground. After this, refer to a guide for the most efficient way to make things for EXP.
