Hello everyone,

I just started GW2 about 2 days ago and decided to go with a mesmer. Now, i’ve run into a problem. I don’t know which crafting to choose for my mesmer, since i’m only allowed to do two. I keep reading that with crafting, you’re able to create your own end gear which really helps.

As for my role while playing gw2, i’m a pvp guy who will occasionally run dungeons. I plan to do PVP and WvW as soon as I can. I’m not excatly sure if i can make money with my crafts later on, but if i can, i would like to know which ones. The ones i’m currently looking at are artificing and cooking. Artificing can provide potions and i can create weapons that are related to the mesmer. (Though to be honest, i love the ability animations when i use swords ). Cooking, well cooking seems general enough that it applies to everyone and i can be a help of some sort.

What do you guys think? Or should i pick tailoring as one? I want to know which ones would benefit me the most as someone who will be more involved in the pvp/wvw area of the game when i’m lvl 80.

Crafting doesn’t affect PvP and you can PvP the moment you exit the tutorial.

For WvW/dungeons/Fractals of the Mist, if you want to min-max with Ascended tier (i.e. highest tier) gear you will need the following crafts:

Tailoring
Artificier
Huntsman
Weaponsmith

You can technically have 4 crafting disciplines per character with the Additional Crafting Licence item from the Gem Store, which are 800 gems each, or 112 gold as of time of writing. Alternatively, you can make an alt and spend about 60g to level the extra two crafting disciplines from 1-400.

You can have more than two crafts, but only two are active at the same time. Switching active crafts cost a small sum.

You have five character slots so you might consider creating an alt to take two crafts. Personally I have four chars with two crafts each. There is also an item in the gem store that lets you ha e more crafts active per character. It is for convenience so it costs a fair bit.

Don’t worry too much about crafting. You gonna need crafting for your ascended gear, but that’s far down the road. Ascended armor don’t give you much stats and cost a lot so most ppl just use exotic and eventually craft ascended when they accumulated enough material. For exotic, there is better way to get gear than crafting.

You can go into crafting right away if you want, but you could wait until after you are level 80 as well. That’s what I did 2 years ago. I started crafting when my second character was at level 40.
