Critical Damage % Cap. Is there one?
Everything Purple
As far as I know, there is no maximum percent for critical hit damage. Obviously the percent to critical hit caps at 100% since anything beyond that is pointless.

No – because there is no actual cap to it
Yes – because you can get only as much as is on gear and in traits
Well looking at all the sources for critical damage -
+30 traits
+10 Plate of Truffle Steak Dinner
+12 armor upgrade
+9 ascended amulet
+16 2x ascended ring
+5 ascended back slot
+12 2x exotic accessory
+10 Banner of Discipline
+10 warrior/ranger axe main hand trait
maximum is 94%
with a banner is 104%
with a banner and trait is 114%
which means the effective critical damage multipliers would be 244%, 254%, and 264%.
Technically there is none it just depends on how you are traited and what gear you have. Just know that everyone’s base crit damage% is 150%. Any thing that adds to critdmg% will just be added to that number. A rune that adds 2% will then increase your damage to 152%.
I managed to reach 110% base critical damage on thief, and 120% with nourishment, so add 10% of banner results in 130%.
No cap other than what’s possible from traits and buff’s. I’ve got a thief to 117% Crit Chance, but anything over 100% is pointless ;P
Does it matter? Why are stats so important?

I dont know man, I guess to determine damage, defense and health and stuff. All very unimportant…
I think you guys are confusing critical chance % and critical damage % . These are 2 separate stats. Critical chance % is how often you crit so no, getting above 100% is pointless. Even if you had 100% crit chance you still don’t crit on every single hit though. Critical damage % is when you do crit how much damage does it deal.

The OP is asking about critical damage not critical chance.
Simplified example: Base attack of 100 + base critdmg 150% = 250 dmg
Rune that adds 2% to critdmg = 252 dmg
and so on……
The Critical Damage cap is at 60%, tested with multiple professions.
So your total (non-visible) Critical Damage is at 210%.

did you just comment your own comment?
Your first example was right, your second was wrong (or unbelievable w/o details).

This puzzled me.
Are you saying that any critical damage beyond 60% will deal the same amount of damage on crits as 60% do?
My engineer has 110% crit dmg + food 10% + goggles = 130% crit dmg.
I don’t believe there is a cap on critical damage outside of what you can physically get, people have been running high crit damage builds for ages and the maths adds up to what they are achieving.
However the crit damage cap is often in reference to sPvP where you do not have access to stuff like food or a full set of accessories, at which point there is a much lower limit to what you can obtain to use in those fights.
Without food buffs, or banner buffs, or any outside buff for that matter, I can get 106% crit dmg on my thief. Thats with eagle runes too and not ruby orbs which would bump it to 110% I believe.
No there is no cap to crit dmg % except for how much gear holds.
And crit dmg base is 50% bonus dmg. So you don’t take 100 and add 150% of 100, you just take 150% of 100 which is 150 dmg with a crit and no crit dmg. If you have 100% crit dmg and you crit the 100 turns to 250 then.
break. I feel like they should be back by now..”
