Is it such a bad thing to want to level each of my crafts? I harvest everything, I don’t farm anything particularly, I just pick up my drops as I explore the world. I have the mats stored. So what’s the big deal?

When I realized I was salvaging to much I began checking TP and vendors and now I salvage/npc about 50/50. My highest level character is like 32 and I have a little over 1g.

What do you think? Is it “noob” or stupid to work every craft?

Wait, are you saying someone has criticised you for it? Or are you just worried that they will?

Because I think it’s unlikely anyone would care. Yes it might be slower, more difficult and/or more expensive but that’s your problem. If anything that’s an advantage for other players because it’s one less high-level crafter to compete with.

It’s not a bad thing. If you have the coin to keep switching around, knock yourself out with it!

The real question is, why do you care what other people think of your game? I bought it, it belongs to me and I will play the way I want to. The other players merely share the environment with me, I respect them but will not tell them how to play their games and will not allow them to tell me how to play mine.

I enjoy crafting….I’m a huntsman and have my level 31 engineer working on it. I have to say that this game seems to have a very involved and slow skill leveling, at least compare to a few other MMO’s I’ve experienced so it’s going to take a long time to actually be able to make weapons my character can use or for the guild or othher characters I will create later.

Play how YOU want to play the game.

Not everyone plays for the same reasons. Ignore them. Enjoy YOUR game YOU are playing. They don’t tell you how to play, they can go fly a kite.

I would have to agree with the other posters on this is your game, you play it the way it makes you happy (as long as its within ANet guidelines of course). I even heard someone the other day say they had all crafting professions on their one character and I thought more power to them (no sarcasm, intended as a compliment) because thats what I wanted to do but ended up making alts for other crafts. Although one never knows…lol

As long as you are able to afford your crafting and it makes you happy & content in this game, go for it!! This game is all about the journey there, not the final destination of 80

You say you were criticized, but you don’t really specify what kind of criticism you got for crafting, could you please elaborate?

I have a stupid handle, didn’t know what I was thinking.

I’d advise doing 1 craft at a time but then hoarding all the mats you get if you want to do all the crafts, which might be what’s necessary if you want multiple legendary weapons and if you want the achievement.

At least, 1 craft at a time that uses the same mats. Doing cooking, jewellry, and tailor all at the same time is fine, they don’t use any of the same mats. However doing Weaponsmith, Huntsman, and Armorer will find you in a pinch as they share most of the same mats, in particular the fine dropped mats.

Only do 1 of those that requires like claws and blood at a time, at least only 1 on your current tier.

First off; you bought the game, you play it in the way you want. Ignore any that try to tell you that you have to play their way or leave the game.

Second; The big deals are these;

A; No matter if you actively ‘farm’ or just mine, chop and gather as you go around, so long as you are not harming anyone else or exploiting or doing anything against the rule there is no big deal. If you where not allowed to play the game in that manner then that play style would not or should not have been included in the game. Either way enjoy what you paid for! (Bit of a repeat there, I know!)

B; Not sure how it works in this game when it comes to guilds, but in other games having a largely crafting based member in a guild can be very beneficial! A crafter, in time, will be able to help out many guild mates that want gear for example.

C; As someone else mentions, craft based players tend to show interest in groups but are primarily just enjoying the game alone. This could be seen by some as antisocial. Others will see differing befits from a crafter. As said already a crafter can be useful to a guild. Also, quite often, a crafter will be seen as less of threat to (some) other players – for whatever reason! In all this, crafting based players are generally seen in a positive light.

Being a crafter is a big deal in a positive way. This is to say that being a crafter, the only impact you would have on other players will be generally positive.

When some one tells you that you must play the game as they do, then that person is more likely to be selfish, petty, self righteous and intolerant than not. Just remember to play the game as you enjoy it (within the rules and terms and conditions) and allow others to play as they want.

If someone wants to make a negative ‘big deal’ about how you play, put in the ear plugs and let them rant – they will likely get quite bored quite fast. Also remember that, in game at least, you can block / ignore people in chat or post.

Oh, yeah! I do a fair bit of crafting too. Things is, I craft on all my alts (no main) and aim to be not only self sufficient from this but also helpful to others. I have not done so yet in GW2 but in other games, I am known to give away crafted items to other players completely free of charge. I like to help others out in that way if I can.

No rig in my sig? Only posted if needed!

Yea play the way you want to =)
I myself have maxed armorsmithing and weapon smithing, granted I first did max one then the other (since these two use a lot of the same items) I then decided I did not want all proffs on one toon, simply because I´ll get two proffs on a different toon and that way gain a few lvls from crafting (you get exp from crafting) so on one of my other toons I have cooking (maxed) and leatherworking (very low lvl still) that toon is level 16, and only gained thoes lvls from crafting so have fun which ever way you want.

If you enjoy a certain experience in the game then go with it. I get a little push from friends when I’m telling them I’m going to craft my main all the way. They feel I should create an alt and craft with that one, send mats back and forth, etc. I’ve done that before in other games, had 4-5 mules and I opted to not do that in this game. I’d still have to level the alt and farm a bit to get mats and then the experience of actually playing the character is lost. Right now I’m lvl 98 in both armor and weapon with a character lvl of 32. Yes I’m leveling fast just farming for mats, but the game offers no other choice. You can’t find enough mats to make gear for the current level unless you want to go broke buying off the TP. The fact that the game down levels doesn’t make me worry about it. I’m still farming the 15-25 zone so I can make gear 25+ and I’m collecting lvl 100 mats as well. ( the only thing I wish is the tiny bags and drops in higher zones didn’t keep dropping more lvl 25 stuff).

So if you enjoy what your doing, forget what others think.
