So I, a Level 17 Human Necromancer, am hoping to run from Kryta, to the Black Citadel in Ascalon. I figured it will be no fun being demoted when I get there as a higher level, and it would be a nice change of scenery.

Basically I am asking if this run is a stupid idea. I’m not planning on engaging any enemies along the path, as I just got told by some Level 25 grubs, but if there is a sizable amount of players, interested in doing the same thing it would make everything alot less dull, and could help. Or is this just such a bad idea that even a group would not help?

You could just take a couple Asura Gates to get there.

Go to divinity’s reach, and take the Asura gate to Lions arch. That will allow you to get to the lions arch gate hub. There is a gate to black citadel from there. That way you don’t have to run all the way there

Step 1: Go to Divinity’s reach.
Step 2: enter the prulpe portal in the center of town
Step 3 (your now in Lion’s Arch) enter the portal guarded by 2 char.

Done, welcome in the black Citadel.

@OP: I love the replies telling you to use the gates.

People, he didn’t say WHY he wants to run, maybe it’s because he wants a challenge? Maybe he KNOWS the gates exist (at level 17 I’m sure he’s been to DR and SEEN the gate to LA).

This idea reminds me long, long ago in FFXI doing a level 1 run with my linkshell from Jeuno to Rabao. As a fairly green noob, that run taught me a LOT about aggro and how to avoid it in the game, lessons that stood me in good stead for a long time.

Maybe the OP is thinking similarly, or maybe he just wants to go explore the world, whatever.

What server are you on? I suspect it’s not Gandara, but if it was, I’d join you – just for fun

Whether it’s a bad idea or not just depends on your goal: Walking the whole distance or simply getting there (quickly) so you can play and level in the Charr starter area (or complete the Black citadel)

OP, it is certainly doable… I have done it. I should add that I used my lvl 80 engineer, so I had a bit of an easier time doing so. The path I took had me running east through kryta, then through the shiverpeaks, and into diessa plateau. From there I went south into black citadel. I am sure there are other ways to get there, but for me that was the path that took me through low to mid level areas without biting off more than I could chew.

Good luck on your run! You should post pics of the path you took!

I’ve been planning on at some point trying to run from Rata Sum to Ebonhawke. I did something similar in GW1 – going from The Wilds (north of Rata Sum and the most westerly outpost) to the temple in Ascalon which I’ve forgotten the name of (north of Ebonhawke and the most easterly outpost).

So like other people said if you want to do it just to see if you can, or for the experience, I think you should go for it (although I strongly recommend planning your route first). If you just want to get there however take the asura gates.

Implies he wants to go there to level. If he was just doing it for the run he wouldn’t care about being downleveld once he got there. His post seems to imply that he wants to go to this area to level up but his scared he’ll get killed along the way.

Another thing is go to heart of the mists (free teleport at the top of your screen, the two crossed swords). Do the short introduction hearts and go straight into the purple gate in front of you. You’ll end up in LA right next to the 4/5 purple asuran gates.

RIP in peace Robert

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I hadn’t previously thought about the Asura Gates, although I knew they existed, but even though, I think I’d rather do the run, just to ‘See the world’.

I’m on Fort Aspenwood, but I could probably transfer to Gandara, or does that reset your levels?

Well, at least I know it has been done, though that is quite the level difference. :P

Here’s the plan I’ve mapped out. I’m still thinking about the yellow path.

A few error’s in the path nimrod.

If going from queensdale to gendarran fields, the exit is much more up. Though i think for running it’s easier from queesndale to kessex hills (godlost swamp portal) and then onwards to gendarran fields, the path to lion’s arch is much easier. From snowden drift you can’t enter Hoelbrak, you need to go to wayfairer foothills. Though it will be a detour, I would suggest indeed going to the houlbrak portal just to unlock it. Last point. from dieesa plateau you can’t enter plains of ashford, but you can directly enter the black citadel.

It won’t reset your levels, but you will not gain benefit from WvW bonuses, until staying for 2 matchups (2 weeks), also If you are in a guild you will not have any guild bonuses as they are only applied to your server you are on, so you have to “reupgrade” guild at that server, but remember if moving back to your old server, you still need to wait 2 matchups for WvW bonus, and your guild upgrades on that old server will still be there

How to crashreport…
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…

Thanks for rhe info! I went through the Godlost Swamp portal, and am already in Gendarran Fields. Good to know about the barriers. Will I be able to enter Lion’s Arch like this though?

One day – one day! – I hope to organise a Run Across Tyria event on my server (Henge of Denravi), where a large group can start from, say, Rata Sum, and move through zones to the other side of the map (say, Ebonhawke) together. No waypoints, doing any events that take our fancy on the way. I could be a ridiculous zerg, but it’d be a nice chance to enjoy some of the zones.

One day!

PS: Yes, if you head from Kessex to Gendarran you can drop into Lion’s Arch from that zone and then head out again into the snowy part of Gendarran. There’s actually an exit from Lion’s Arch in the north-east corner which will take you to the east side of Gendarran Fields.

Thanks, but I just set foot in the Wayfarer Hills. Although strangely enough, that is the exact route I took, haha.
