I’m on one server, and I have friends on my server and on another.
I can group with my friends off server, and SOMETIMES we can see each other. (It seems like when we happen to get into the same overflow server…usually by logging out and both logging in at the same time, or when miraculously the ‘join in’ option is available).

But if neither of us are in the overflow server, then we can’t see each other.

Shouldn’t we be able to? What’s the purpose of being able to group if not to play with one another?

Is this a bug? or ‘functions as designed’?

Functioning as designed. Overflow server is cross server. Normal server activity isnt. Thats why you can get in the overflow server and opt out of joining the queue for the regular one.

Is there any way to force moving to an overflow so I can actually play with my friends on other servers?

The mid level zones aren’t populated enough to (even the lower-mid we tried) to have us automatically placed in the overflow.

This game was sold as ‘play with your friends on any server’ and I would like to know from the publisher: is that true or not? When will it be true if it isn’t?

No, you shouldn’t be able to choose an overflow server.

What you are looking for is “guesting”. It is currently disabled because there’s free server transfer for everyone. Once the free server transfer is turned-off, they’re going to enable guesting.

Then you can guest on your friend’s server (or them to yours) and play together.

I can confirm that I me and another member of our guild, successfully joined a dungeon with a party from another server. While both of us were NOT on overflow.

Until guesting is available, you’ll have to make do with trying to get on overflow if u want to party in the main open world. I know it sucks, but if you really want to badly, switch servers temporarily. its free, and u can always switch back before they make it cost something.

For what it’s worth, I have done daily server transfers. Unfortunately, the ‘main’ server I’m on occasionally becomes ‘full’, making it somewhat risky .
