There is no OP class ><

It’s all about personal preference. People might come here and say the Thief. But if you do ‘suck’ which im sure is an exaggeration then the thief will be hard to play at first. Due to the relentless dodging you will need to do :P

Try simple, like find a tanky warrior/guardian build maybe or the Engineer/Ranger. Then when your more fluent with controls work your way through harder to master classes maybe.

They really aren’t no idea why people keep thinking that Mesmers are OP the only difficult thing about them in PvP is trying to spot the right one. I’d say the Ranger is pretty OP, One ranger managed to kill me and a guardian in no time 2 vs 1

As for pve it’s hard to say Warriors are pretty steamwaltzy, Thiefs, Elementalists all do some nice damage if played well.

If you want an easy class you’ll probably want Elementalist I found them really easy to get the hang of. But it’s all very much personal preference. I think it depends entirely on the person behind the profession and not as much on the profession itself.

I was talking about keeping it simple, I used a turret based class and found it pretty simple compared to other class builds I have used

I’m sure all classes have a set of confusing build but I just know Engie is good because it can handle itself well with simpler builds aswell

This has to be a troll post for sure! I r leik to fac3r0ll p33ps with auto attack, tell me how?

The truth is this game has another layer of play over other mmo’s your character is going to be something you care about and anything that is OP not will not be OP forever, you’ll see that professions will fall in line with each other and you will be left with the choice you made, ie: pick a character you actually want to play not the one that’s allegedly doing the most dmg.

Edit: I just read someone say “I’d say the Ranger is pretty OP, One ranger managed to kill me and a guardian in no time 2 vs 1”. The ability of one ranger to kill 2 people is suddenly a reason to call a profession OP, I mean it has nothing to do with the fact he was experienced and perhaps your not as good as you think?!

I assume that’s sarcasm. Unload & heartseeker FTW. Kind of fragile in PvE though – can’t kill a ranged skill-point guardian alone and ranged enemies in general take a big bite out of my healthorb even if I dodge every single shot and interrupt whenever I can. At level 80, mobs in Orr 3-hit me, coupled with immobilize and cripple, that’s just a pain.

Thief’s by far are the biggest faceroll class right now. Spam heartseeker and instantly kill anyone in less than 2 seconds flat. They go stealth and take you down in stealth, I mean what the f%^#? That’s just bad. Every time a decent Thief gets behind me it’s instant death, lets not even talk about when there is more than 5 per PVP server. It’s outrageous.

Sure u can spam heartseeker, but it is stupid. it sends u right into the middle of the group enemies, and then u die. people get killed by thieves cuz they run away. then theif gets bonus dmg. just cc them and they die or leave

I play mesmer and the current build I have allows me to wreck almost everyone 1v1 and even take up to a 1v3 if the opponents don’t know how to play it out properly.

That said I met a guardian who I had so many issues with, only time I killed him he had none of his stuff up and was at 25% hp….was still close.

I think player skill and being in sync with your profession is more important than what profession. I’ve met more awful mesmers than anything other than theives.

The OP class in this game is the one you are able to adapt to the most and match with your own personal playstyle. For example, I never know what kind of Engineer i will run into in a battle until we start fighting. At first I used to be able to roll engineers but as the match/battles progressed they adapted and found a way to overcome my tactics. The idea of OP changes in a matter of minutes.

People who take the time to analyze their builds and familiarize themselves with the other classes are the ones who are OP

Every class is op’ed in the right hands under a skillful player. In the heart of the mist, I have gotten whispers that I am so hard to kill as a thief and amongst the best player on the team.

This game, I cannot say 100% skill based, is nearly skill and macro based. Every second counts in GW2, you mess up, it will cost you dearly.

I tried for the entire day today playing as an elementalist, but I suck, I have not acquired the skills unlike other elementalist that I have faced that are very hard to take down; seriously. I have warrior who can stun and deal an exceptionally large amount of damage in a very short amount of time, guardians who can still manage to kill and withstand 2+ more people on them, Mesmers who definitely has the mindset to play as an illusionist class (Just another way of saying, they very well, beat me fairly), Rangers who have very good macro/dual pet, Necros who are masters at watching what skills I use to a point, I have no ways to remove their overwhelming stacks of conditions on top of super cool lich form, and engineers who knows how to think like a bomber.

So, remember, GW2 is

1. Skill Based
2. Teamwork based (Combining skills)
3. Heavy Macro based (PvP wise)

Unfortunately there is no “facerolling” as everything requires a fair amount of skill to play. Nothing is “press 2 and 3 and you win” in this game. There are certain classes that have a higher skill cap e.g. Mesmer or Engineer, but none are particularly OP. If someone is telling you they’re OP it’s because they got rocked by them. It’s easy to say class X is op when you get dominated by it, but if you simply step back and take the time to learn the ins and outs of your abilities all of the classes are fairly well balanced.

There really isn’t any OP class, just people calling other classes OP because they die too often from it.

Also, engineer is a high skill class and is pretty hard to be a first character to play. I suggest going Warrior/Guardian.

There are several classes which would be considered hard to play. That said if you “get” the class and it melds with how you play then a lot of what it does can seem almost intuitive. I’ve heard a lot of ppl say mesmer is hard to play but I find it almost obvious.

As a dedicated Guardian, yeah its pretty straightforward if offense is your thing, (Support requires oodles of skill) but as for killing-power, its not the most effective.

Since ANet managed AH stats before, i wonder if they can manage average PVP population per class, KDR, and even average APM of the top 10 SPVP players of the class (when ranking comes along). That should give good insight for this question.

P.S. I don’t think there is such a thing as a troll question, only irrational or misinformed ones… this seems pretty legit to answer well.

For me it seems that a lot of PvE content can be managed with any class solo. High end PvE stuff requires group anyway, so then you are best off with the profession that you like, not what most people think is “OP”.

When it comes to PvP, it is mostly skill based anyways. Even if there was an “OP” profession, better players and groups will always win. Also professions/classes that are considered “OP” by the community, usually get nerfed hard, which leads them to be underpowered. This leads to even more “QQ NERF XXX OMGPLEX”, which is always hilarious but also sad.

All class has advantage, but some of them are easier to control for an average pvp/pve combat. Thief is one of them :
- Withdraw for dodge when heal + break stun, Signet of Shadows for speed (passive), Roll for initiative for break stun if Withdraw is on cool-down and get initiative, Infiltrators Signet for get initiative and break stun if other 2 skill on cool-down.
- Use dagger + pistol for Black powder + Heart seeker combo and keep first skill auto-attack on.
- Traits : trickery for initiative, Critical Strikes for last skill – Hidden Killers

So you will have a char that you can use like :
- you have to use just 2 buttons, the black powder + heart seeker. After the combo your auto attack will do the work, if there cooldown went down, use the combo again.
The combo gives stealth, so you will always critic after it + get initiative + blind (trait)
If you get dps’ed use your heal for hp and roll back. If you stun, use one of your 3 skill for it. And push dodge after every combo+ auto attack for blind and then use the combo again.

Extremely simple, compared to an ele for example , )

Have fun!

(warrior is the same "2 klick class, guardian is more complex, but nearly all of his skills gives Retaliation, ranger’s axe + axe using Whirling Defense is OP but you should land it and if the opponent dodge, you suck and his pet control is bad, till you can’t use just the pets first skill by manually – fail, engineer I never tried, but my friend use it and its quite ok, but not that simple like thief or warrior, with mesmer you should practice a lot to handle it well – same with necro and finally ELE is the most complex class with uber bad defense and extremely hard to handle it well compared to other classes)

I would be very upset if arenanet did anything to really nerf one of the classes right now. We are so close after launch that like sc2:WoL after its release nobody can really play the game properly and doesn’t understand the dynamics. Unless one thing comes out as so hideously broken that nobody can deal with I feel its better to let it play out and see if players can come up with a solution ala protoss deathball.

Thief is OP. Play Thief. If you listen about how you should “go full crit” and “spam 2” and how Thief oneshots people, then you will be totally useless in PVP, and i will gladly farm you in WvW if our servers ever meet.

If you dont have a clue how to play your class, you wont succeed. Unlike games like WoW, here you can’t get away with just being OP. Your class must compliment your weaknesses and your strengths, it must fit your playstyle. Every class feels very different.

Depends whether you want to play PVP or PVE too. Wether its sPVP or WvW.

Best bet i’d say – try everything. Play with every class, try every weapon setup. You can do it in sPVP, or you can level yourself to lvl 10 in PVE and go to WvW. Try to FEEL the class. How does it play. What is the idea. Etc.

I am a Thief. I chose it not because i can “oneshot” because I cant. Thieves do not oneshot! They burst down their target, and it doesnt happen with a press of a single button, you must set up your kills. But anyway, I’m a Thief after I tried Mesmer, Guardian, Ranger, Elementalist and watched my friend try Guardian, Engineer and Necromancer. Because the class feels like i do. I dont like to have every basic offensive ability on cooldown – thats why i play Thief with initiative system. I do like to have stuff that gives me advantage on demand and then goes into cooldown (not an attack, but a kind of buff) – thats why i play Thief with signets. I do like to have mobility over being a tank, since I have more ways to improve, and potential of mobility is always bigger than simple damage absorbtion. Thats why I play Thief, with Shortbow as one of the weapon choices.

My friend, for example, even though he loves tinkering and stuff, totally disliked Engineer, he said “i’m clueless, i stand doing nothing and i dont like it”, and totally loved his Necro (he also loves Warlock in WoW) and Guardian. Those classes felt like he wanted it to. He loved to consume his pets, to summon a pet only to eat it for HP right away. He loved to fear enemies, to have AOE on every skill. He loved to go dark and spooky with different abilities. In Guardian he loved to troll people with multiple spirit weapons knocking them around, going full tank build. He loved to smash things, stun, knockback etc. He loved the “book” that heals everyone to full health after a huge channel.

Don’t listen to OP cries. Don’t fear, its not WoW, you wont be a feral druid in vanilla which had no attack scaling whatsoever, you wont be a rogue of vanilla too. You wont be resto druid of WoTLK, nor you would be Frost Mage of… any time really, they always were OP. In GW2 its different.

I am a Thief and I mostly play WvW and I can burst people down from full HP to defeated state (not downed, defeated!) in 3 seconds. Thats not because I’m OP, but because i know my strong points, and my opponent doesnt know them / doesnt expect me to attack / doesnt know how to counter them / is undergeared. There is nothing OP in your opponent allowing you to faceroll them. There is nothing OP in your opponent not willing to learn to play this game.

I agree, thiefs lack mobility, scape skills and have the lowest amount of base health in the game. The only way a thief would be viable right now would be if they could kill any class they 1v1 with 2-3 shots. And i mean, even if it was this way, if that other class dodged even one of those the initiative you would spend would not regenerate for another minute (like every class) to do that amount of burst again, so you wouldnt be able to just keep atacking until it died. when that burst fails its not like you can just run away invisible to recuperate and strike again without notice. Thief is underpowered, and i mean severely underpowered.

Miraculously, the Professions seem pretty well balanced out of the box. I can’t see that anything more than a bit of tweaking here and there is required – but no major overhauls.

I’m not speculating on whether they can do damage or how much they do relatively. I’m going from personal experience that I have met a necro who was reliably able to do large enough quantities of damage to me that I took notice of him. Much like the fact I have only ever met 1 guardian who was able to pump the damage he was while also being really hard to kill. If one person can do it however then anyone can.

I wouldn’t say they’re overpowered (I main one btw) but they definitely can push out front load damage if played right. And I definately agree that if our burst fails we’re sitting ducks unless we can reset (wait for cooldowns) to have another go at it.

For those complaining about Heartseeker spam, go out in PvP and try that. Good luck, you will need it. If you’re running into thieves that heartseeker spam, use a CC and /laugh. Seriously, one dimensional thieves are really that easy to take down.

Laughably though, according this thread, everyone thinks the grass is greener on the other side of the fence which in my opinion is great! If everyone thinks another profession is OP then ArenaNet did a pretty good job of balancing.

The grass (profession) is always greener when you water (diverse tactics) it.
