I did a search and did not see info about this.

Is there a way to parse out the damage to see exactly how we are performing or is still just our best guess?

You can turn on (or, better, create a second tab) combat messages. There’s no text log for parsing or anything useful like that, but it will at least show you your damage spam. I don’t know how big the buffer is, though, so it might not even cover a whole fight, but it’s the best we’ve got.
