Hi there,

I have a level 36 elementalist, with 5 gold and 48,000 karma.

Where is the best place to buy some decent weapons, armor and rings/accessories?

Should I buy some cultural items? If not, what else should I look into?

Thanks in advance

Buy some cheap greens and blues from the trading post. You can buy cultural items if you like their aesthetic.

48k Karma. Check the renown heart vendors in Bloodtide Coast or Harathi Hinterlands. They may have some upgrades for your profession.

You shouldnt be looking into purchasing armor too seriously until you are level 80.

Until that point, most armor dropped from mobs that fit you will suffice, and if you go too long without finding a specific armor piece from a mob, you can buy it on the Trading post.

Armor, trinket, and ring buying only becomes a chore when you start getting into Exotic, Ascended. until then anything works.

Enjoy the ride. you don’t have to worry about gear until you hit max level. if you want to pay favor to a specific stat on your way, take a look at the

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature

and pick up cheap green/blue colored armor that matches the prefix/suffix of the stat you want to add predominantly.

I can afford some cultural armor… is this not recommended? Can I just buy or find armor with the same statistics?

No it is not recommended as you will have to replace your armor around lvl 45 to 50. I would just craft some green or blue armor and be done with it. You would be wasting money on the T1 and T2 armor.

You may be able to afford it, but note that your armor will change every couple of levels or so until you reach level 80. It’s better to wait until you hit that level before spending currencies on Armor.

EX: If you buy armor at lvl 36, at lvl 40 you will need a new set.

Buy the cultural only if you like how it looks. You can get the same stats from the TP or craft. However, seriously, green armor is perfectly good enough. Also, lvl 39 armor can take the major runes, so that is a consideration when acquiring armor at your level. Think how much do you want to spend now, when better stuff is only 3 levels away.

While leveling i just buy armor and weapons every 10 levels off the trading post. It will be helpful to also buy the minor sigils and runes plus some +power and added experience from kills food. All weapons and armor while leveling should be based on power.. so “mighty” stats.

Agree with what everyone said here. Only buy the cultural armor if you like it for its looks to unlock them, but be aware that in a few levels you’ll probably replace it anyway, and I recommend saving your transmutation charges for when you’re 80, as a new char you probably don’t have many (if any) yet. You’re much better off just buying green gear off the TP while you level up, I usually do it every 10 levels when leveling, and check every heart to see if there’s something good meanwhile.

One bit of advice, at that level (or a little bit above) start playing in harathi hinterlands, there’s one heart north of it (Forward Scout Greta) where at level 43 you’ll be able to buy and equip the first 3 stat weapons in the game, and most likely the best ones for quite several more levels.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.

Buy greens for levelling as you recoup much of the cost in mats after breaking them – they’re soulbound on use. Upgrade gear every time the green has a tier, but avoid crafting level tiers as those often cost 10x of green items not made by players.

Once you reach 68+, buy yellows as you can recoup the costs by breaking into ectoplasm.

Once you reach 80, you should probably get dungeon armors (earn them from tokens you get from completing dungeons in full lvl 80 yellow armor, then break the yellow armor). This unlocks both the skin for later use, and can also supply you dark matters if you eventually break them down for Ascended replacements. I don’t advocate using non-dungeon exotic armors, rares at level 67 or below, or buying blues at any point in your levelling process (though early on, blue lvl 6 weapon drops can be useful to tide over until hitting the first masterwork tier at lvl 14).

This gives reasonable efficiency while the sum of all your gear-related to costs is about… 40 silver all the way from lvl 1 to 80. Which is partially recouped in Luck essences anyway.
