Deleting Character
How did you name the character with that in the first place? You obviously knew how at one point, and then you made it again while posting here. So why can’t you type it in the delete box?
On my (full size, UK, Querty) keyboard it’s Shift + \ (the key between left shift and Z).
A google image search tells me that on American keyboards it’s likely to be a key between backspace and enter.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Since you know where the key is but can’t use it on the space provided you will need to submit a ticket I would guess.
Try changing your Windows keyboard setting. For most english speaking nations it will be the little EN that sits in your Windows taskbar. America layouts are different to UK layouts which are different again to Australian or other EU layouts so there’s going to be a lot of trial and error involved
And you’re absolutely positive it’s a | and not a lower case L or upper case i? Because I didn’t think the game allowed that character in names.
[TTBH] [HATE], Yak’s Bend(NA)
The game does NOT allow it any special characters at all when you create a character so I have no idea how it could have been named | (pipe symbol).
I do recall seeing a similar claim to this in the past (not with that particular name) and I think it was resolved by opening a ticket with Support (I have no idea HOW it was actually technically resolved by Support).

I’ve recently started seeing a large number of players who put a capital “i” at the front and back ends of their names for emphasis or something (similar to the “X Name X” reasoning). I think they also do it because the name they want is taken so adding this element means they can get the name they want.
Ex:
I Name I
As mentioned, try to do your | symbol as a capital “i” if that is where it is placed in the name like in my example above.

Type the symbol somewhere that will allow it, copy and paste into the name block (crtl+v), might work.
