Hi all,

I was running world completion in Frostgorge Sound yesterday on an alt and stumbled across an orichalum node. To my pleasant surprise it was surrounded by level 78 – 80 mobs which seemed to have a pretty good drop rate on T5 and T6 claws (I have also discovered bones). This is great because I need to get my crafting skills up.

Anyway, I stayed all of 5 minutes and continued on my way, logging out near HoTW instance entrance, and went to bed.

When I came back this morning I decided to some dedicated claw farming, so I popped a spicy pumpkin cookie (45mins) and returned to the node spot (happily it was in the same place so I got my orichalum). I had been farming for about 25 mins when I ate some +power food (not magic find), not realizing that it was one-food-buff only in game (I know, noob). Accordingly, I popped my last spicy cookie and returned to the claw hunt. About 20 minutes later I noticed that all of the drops had converted from materials to icy stones! It was very, very sudden and noticeable.

So, if anyone knows, answer me my questions 3 (anecdotal evidence or a link to a comprehensive thread would be fine):

1. How long does one have to stay in an area in the open world before this effect is observed?
2. Is it a case of the entire zone being affected, or just the local POI/area?
3. How long does the effect last?
4. Would guesting remove the effect? (I know this is a controversial suggestion that makes me sound like a farmer, but actually I need these mats to get my tailoring to 400 and craft exotics)

That is 4 questions. Whoops.

These answers are what I have gathered from MF data threads or Devs themselves.

1. 1 hour
2. The entire map
3. Unknown to the people
4. Unknown

Anet had stated that any activity over an hour in the same general area or events will trigger the DR code. Many other things will set it off as well. Mechanical type movement. Targetting specific mobs and skipping others. I have a friend who got banned but is now back for botting camps in CS, but it was him there everyday taking the same paths for hours over and over.

They want you to move to different maps in all level zones. Why the buffes drop rates and levels in lower level zones.

Some people claim that DR can become a permanent effect on you. I believe I have experienced this several times. As I will go days without getting anything but porous bones and blues. Same with ecto salvaging, streaks of 20+ rares without an ecto.

Guess the guesting question you have will have to be tested out. Seeing as guesting just came out I doubt there is an answer for it.

Hi Vinny,

Thanks for your answer. I am a little concerned if indeed its true that 1 hour in an entire map is all it takes to trigger DR. Would zoning out occasionally for PvP stop this occurring?

Personally, I don’t think 1 hour could be right, because anyone running map completion would spend more than 1 hour in a zone, especially Orr/Frostgorge Sound, and would see this mechanic kick in just from cruising around killing the odd mob.

I understand that Anet don’t want to set out the exact details of it (given that it would lead to gamers, being gamers, trying to exploit/circumvent it for ill ends), but I think a greater degree of transparency about these changes would help to maintain the confidence of the gaming community. Moreover, given they introduce items that require 50 lodestones, how can players who want those items acquire them without farming for them? Strewth.
