My Guardian just dinged 80 using personal story, tomes, hearts, hero points and exploration. He’s my first 80. I did Torn from the Sky and unlocked the masteries. The question is what next?

I have some plans. My personal story needs finishing. Should I open all those Exotic boxes boxes I have? Same for the Loyalty boxes?

My Armorsmithing is around 200. Is there a reason to raise it up? Old posts on crafting seem contradictory about the priority and I can’t tell what is current. (Crafting isn’t that fun for me.)

Question: When I’m in Tyria my xp goes to Tyria masteries, and when in Maguuna, it goes to the HoT Masteries?

DH is unlocked but no where near complete. Somewhere in there I should get HP in HoT zones?

Seems like there are a bunch of things to do (equipment, masteries, hero points), and sorting priority is what I’m asking.

I still haven’t used the free 80 level up. My choices are Mesmer (53), Ele (22), Ranger (15) and Revenant (35). Leaning towards the Mesmer as I’ve played him a fair amount. But he needs a group to run around HoT zones because his damage is bad? OTOH, isn’t there something about bags I get in Silverwastes and I’m supposed to open them on a level 50-56 toon? If the boost is used on the Mesmer, I’d need to level up another bag opener?

Theoretically I should play them all at level 80, see which one I like, but it takes time to learn all a toon’s capabilities at level 80.

Gold farming is a goal so I can buy some gems to unlock another character slot. Season 2 needs gems to unlock also. Which class is good for that? Or is it more a question of doing stuff in a group?

1. Get enough mastery points for gliding and updraft. If you can go for bouncing mushroom too.

2. For boxes better use low level character to open then and yes you need to level another tool for boxes opening if you use boost on your 2nd character.

3. Look for other player’s help across HoT zone ( best is mesmer ) and get your DH fully unlocked.

4. For your Question : Yes you are corrected, in Tyria = Tyria Masteries, HoT = HoT masteries.

5. Crafting is very important whether you like it or not, start working on your ascended gear as soon as possoble.

6. For priority start with fully geared with Exotic stuff then Get your DH maxed and thats it do whatever you want after these two.

7. Mesmer is a very versatile class but take time to learn, you will suffer a lot of pain in high level maps as a starter mesmer but rewarded gameplay.

- I know i shouldn’t say this but i recommended Rev because this is the easiest class i can think of for you as you are new to this game ( auto perma swiftness is just too…..)

8. For gold farming stick with Silverwastes, any class can do well in pve but in group content guard is a very decent choice and Rev if you want easy mode.

- I only suggest newbie friendly class but if you want challenging gameplay then pick either ele or mesmer.

Last : Congratz on your first 80 and Have Fun !!!

I have some plans. My personal story needs finishing.

Short answer: Whatever you want. At level 80 the game becomes much more free-roaming. There are lots of things you can do and very few things you have to do, so it’s really up to you.

It may be helpful to know it’s almost impossible to get it wrong. You can’t lock yourself out of anything by choosing to do something else and you can switch between areas of the game and activities easily.

I think your personal story is a good place to start because it will give you lots of background and introduce you to many areas of the world. Plus I happen to like the storyline.

Should I open all those Exotic boxes boxes I have? Same for the Loyalty boxes?

I’m not sure what boxes you’re referring to but opening them would probably be a good idea. If they’re boxes of exotic equipment then they’d be very useful because exotic is the next to best you can get and a good choice for a new level 80. (Ascended equipment is much more expensive and time consuming so not something to go for as soon as you hit 80, and also not necessary.)

If they’re not specifically equipment boxes in they’ll probably have a mix of items you can use, sell or salvage, which is also helpful.

y Armorsmithing is around 200. Is there a reason to raise it up? Old posts on crafting seem contradictory about the priority and I can’t tell what is current. (Crafting isn’t that fun for me.)

I don’t craft often but I find it helpful to have the various crafts at level 400 at least, ideally 500. Every so often there’s something I want which either has to be crafted or is easier/cheaper to craft and then it’s helpful to have the skill ready. Plus as long as you level it on a character you’re sure you will keep it’s one of those things which can be done once and then it’s finished.

Question: When I’m in Tyria my xp goes to Tyria masteries, and when in Maguuna, it goes to the HoT Masteries?

Correct. The exception is the 3 new maps accessed as part of Season 3, even though they’re not geographically part of the jungle they count as HoT maps so your XP will go to HoT masteries while you’re there.

DH is unlocked but no where near complete. Somewhere in there I should get HP in HoT zones?

HoT zones are the best place to get hero points because each one gives 10 points, but normal points can go towards the elite spec too so if you’re near one you may as well get it.

Seems like there are a bunch of things to do (equipment, masteries, hero points), and sorting priority is what I’m asking.

My personal preference is equipment 1st (a full set of exotic weapons and armour, and ascended trinkets bought with laurels), then I train my masteries and get hero points while focusing on other things, mainly story and map completion because that’s what interests me.

But if you really want to use your elite spec ASAP or there’s certain masteries you know you want to unlock it might be worth focusing on them.

I still haven’t used the free 80 level up. My choices are Mesmer (53), Ele (22), Ranger (15) and Revenant (35). Leaning towards the Mesmer as I’ve played him a fair amount. Unfortunately I can’t answer these questions. As far as I’m aware any profession can be played solo in HoT zones but it might be harder for some than others. But my mesmer is only about level 30 so I don’t know and the rest I know even less about.

Spend some time mapping and farming world events like Shadow Behemoth. Sell all of the rare (yellow) equipment on the trading post. Be patient. Buy / collect one set of exotic armor recommend for dungeons and fractals . This is what you will want to progress your account.

Thanks for the info! There certainly is a lot to figure out at 80. In fact it seems like there is too much to do, rather than too little.

Opened my exotic boxes and got a sword, mace and two staffs. Joined in at the first HoT zone protecting rally points and figured out how not to die. I switched to GS and Mace/Focus, and that seems more useful. Got my glider basics finished and working on Bouncing Mushroom. May go back to SW to get some more Hero points. All the builds I find use dragon hunter, so I should probably get it maxed.

Figured out that using the 80 boost on another toon allows them to gather xp for the Tyria masteries. Mesmer is fun but really enjoying the elementalist. Not sure how she lives so long, probably just lucky. Still, might prefer to level the ele and use Mesmer in HoT. I’m probably not playing the Mesmer to full potential. 80% done with Pact Commander and then I’ll switch to Fractal Mastery.

BTW, what equipment level do I need for starting fractals?

I have some laurels and bunches of karma. Any good buys available with them? Stuff that will last a long time and is a good investment?

And of course I need to raise up Armorsmithing, farm gold, do more map completion….

Good choice on picking ele, if play it in the right way ele can withstand any foe.

For masteries it would be wise to pick updraft before bouncing mushroom.

I’am not fractal expert so ill leave this to someone else but you can do find with exotic gear in low level fractals ( higher need ascended due to Agony )

For laurels best way is to buy ascended trinket BUT there are other option too and require you to grind quite alot of unbound magic, the vendore in Bloodstone Fen and Bitterfrost Frontier also sell ascended trinket.

For Karma, good news, you can buy exotic armor with berserker stat with them here is the link https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Temple_armor

*Please note this do not put any expensive rune on karmar gear cuz you will lose it forever ( cannot salvaged karmar gear )

Here is the refer link for build http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki
*Please don’t do exactly as the build on web said and alway build trait in your own way.

Yes, you earn experience toward HoT masteries only in HoT content.

Your mesmer will be fine. Damage isn’t a problem in open world PvE, as long as you stay alive. Mesmers are good for that.

Unlock gliding, updrafts, and bounce mushrooms before any of the other masteries. They are by far the most useful for navigating HoT maps.

What you do next is up to you. If it were me, I’d have fun exploring the jungle, doing the storyline, upgrading my gear, unlocking my elite spec, and working toward masteries. If you do this you won’t really need a top priority, since you do it all at the same time.

Karma can be used to purchase exotic armour from the temples in Orr. Different stat combinations are available at different temples so check on the wiki to see which one offers the stats you want before you head out.

Laurels can be used to purchase ascended trinkets (amulet, rings and accessories), which are top tier so they’re a pretty good investment.

For Fractal levels 1-19 exotic equipment is fine (or even lower tiers probably). Above that you need at least some ascended equipment so you can put Infusions on it which give Agony Resistance – otherwise you will die. But at first you only need a little of of AR and you’ll get plenty of infusions for it from doing the lower tiers.

I recommend reading the Fractals Wiki page because it’s quite different to most dungeons I’ve encountered in this or any other game.
