Does anybody else have a problem with "alts"
I make alts, but for the sake of trying out something fresh. I have one 80 and plan to keep it as my main. I feel nothing wrong with that, and have no reason to get any other profession to 80. It’s what I want and that’s how I’m playing.
I have 7 characters. Now I’m making a second Engineer for a different play style. because I hate changing traits and gear all the time. I still have to level a Ranger and a Thief but that will happen in my summer holiday.
I have 8 level 80s, full exotics on all and some with ascended amulets. I don’t consider my self to have a main and I try to play all mine equally. They all play differently so it doesn’t get boring. I’m not using the same 2 weapon skills over and over again. i use at least 15 weapon sets, and I tend to switch weapons around some to change it up even more.

I agree, it’s refreshing to change weapons on a character. The gameplay changes a lot. I only hope Arena-Net will implement quick gear and trait swapping.
I would say its a personal thing. As a person with many alts it suits me fine in my playstyle just like you having 1 guy and using him as a total main toon. Nothing wrong with that as it suits you fine and that’s what is important what suits you and nobody else. Everyone has different views on what They wish and how they wish to play the game e.g. im not a farmer so you see that differs from another persons viewpoint , just enjoy what you like and do what pleases you
It is very much a personal thing and I think everyone will have a slightly different way of doing it.
My main character is very much my favourite and the one I like playing most but I like playing the others too. They’re all different professions so I’ve got different playstyles to experiment with but I also like making up and playing different backstories and personalities. It’s not quite role-playing, but I like to imagine how each character would approach the situation.
I do that in all RPGs. It’s really bothering me that I can only have 1 save file in Dragon Quest 9 so I don’t have that option.
But if you don’t enjoy it there’s no reason to do it.

For the sake of change and diversity i have more chars.
Have 5 main chars now, all a different class.
After playing a char (a class) for a while i wanna try something else.
Also, i am curious how all classes/races play. So i try all. Then keep a class/race i like (enough).

I can relate …
Mained my ranger from launch until Jan when I realised anet was slowly killing off this class. I know, it took me awhile …
I created a guardian and leveled to 80 and was very glad I did. Ranger has only gotten worse and would have left the game if not for the guardian.
I do dailies and the dragon/world events on the ranger, and do dungeons and Orr events on my guardian so the time spent on both is fairly even.
Since then I created a mesmer, but just don’t have time for it. Been stuck at lvl 61 for quite sometime.
I have one lvl 80, my asura engineer. She is def my main, and I’m gonna say always will be. So much fun. I have like 6 alts of various levels (from 12 all the way to 70) but no other 80s. This is mostly cuz I don’t play enough to have invested the time it requires to have lots of 80s. But also because I don’t find any of the other professions as engaging as my engineer. So I try em out a while, decide I’m bored, and pop back onto my main. I love rolling alts, trying new stuff, even just playing with character creation. But in the end, my main is the character I love playing the most.
As an aside, in GW I had 1 of every class at 20 and fully geared with a wide array of weapons and armors, as well as countless skills unlocked. I regularly alternated between my ranger, warrior, monk, and necro. They were my “mains” if you could call em that, since I split time almost equally.

I have 3 lvl80’s atm. Thief, mesmer and guardian.
The first two leveld relatively fast, the last one… not so much.
could it be that you just enjoy the necro so much that the other classes seem dull? Personally I have that with my mesmer… All the other classes I play now feel a bit ‘meh’. ^^’
