One of the devs mentioned in a past thread about this same question that MF did not affect boxes and alike because they didn’t want players switching to full MF gear right after a fight, and so cheat the system this way.

Now, ever since the SAB update, MF is account-wide and is not available on items anymore (except infusions and perhaps others that I may not know) does MF affect boxes now?

As in chests in dungeons/such? I feel ike it does, but I don’t have any official claim to that. I do happen to get rares in world boss chests (not the daily account bound one) more frequently

It doesn’t. Only loot dropped from enemies.

They only work on creature kills, chests however have a better table then normal kills. We wanted to avoid the game play of killing a boss and then having to equip your whole Magic Find set before opening the chest.

Also magic find is calculated from when the creature is killed so it’s also not viable to use your normal gear set kill a boss then switch to magic find.

Yeah, this is the forum post from almost a year ago. I think the question was whether they changed it so now it does affect chests

There is no clear indication the mechanic has changed. I also don’t suspect a dev will answer this, specially not in here (this is the players helping players part of the forum).

If you want this to be found out, you could start a discussion on the magic find talkpage on the wiki if it is desirable to investigate this. They have means to record large amounts of player tests, where players can report their quality of drops from chests as well as their magic find.

Someone in my guild has over 150% (including guildbonus) and did a few fractals runs. The result where some very good drops, but mostly from drops, and not from the chests. So that is a tiny indication that the mechanic hasn’t changed.

I would tend to believe that they did not go through the trouble of redesigning the system and how MF works and affects chests.

They have said before that it does not affect chests. I would believe that they have not changed this.

Just too much work/effort for them to do this. No real incentive to change it.

another question however. Does magic find affects the rarity of champion loot boxes in lower level area.

In a 70+ level area those bags are always exotic. but in lower level area’s the loot boxes themself can be of lower rarity. Does magic find affect that rarity cause it is a drop directly from a foe?? (and indirect the quality off the content of the lootbox??)

Perhaps if you’ve read the first sentence of my post, you’d have known that I already knew that, but evidently it seems that you didn’t. This thread is pertaining to magic find AFTER the update as I have mentioned in the post.

I hardly believe that one would have to go through “redesigning the system” to add the effects of magic find to box loot tables. As I’ve mentioned before, the only reason that is shown as to why MF didn’t affect boxes was MF gear, which is no longer an issue by the removal of MF gear in this update. It’s disappointing to see that devs do not reply in Players Helping Players forum.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t affect the boxes you can carry (kite fortunes, dragon coffers, BL chests), but I’ve definitely been getting better luck with boss chests (the big ones on the ground after a world event, for instance) since the MF change went live.

My sample size is still very small (especially when dealing with these very low percentages), but the evidence I have so far seems to point toward it having an effect.

Either it affects boxes now, or they have simply upped the loot from boxes, since i get much more yellows now, and even got 2 exos from lvl 5 boxes in the last weeks.

Besides the new extra loot in the daily box, I don’t see any improvement. I never used magic find gear, ankitten ow on 58% magic find

Nothing in any of the updates notes indicate any change in how MF actually works in terms of drops, chests or loot boxes, so I’d say that indicates that if there were changes, nobody that knows about them is going to fess up in this thread.
